Bravo to OV Artist Oscar

Bravo to OV and Fine Artist Oscar Marcus Boyle (Os 08-15), who has been named one of Saatchi Art’s ‘Rising Stars’ for 2022.

The report comprises 30 to 40 of the most promising and collectible graduate artists from across the globe and is released every Autumn.

After leaving King’s, Oscar pursued his undergraduate degree in Fine Arts at The Slade School of Fine Art, from which he graduated in 2021 with First Class honours. He followed this with a First Class MLitt in Fine Art Creative Practice from The Glasgow School of Art.

Continuing to be based in Glasgow, Oscar works with a wide range of media, drawing together a constellation of art-historical influences ranging from Edgar Degas via Persian Miniature Painting to Grayson Perry in order to weave kaleidoscopic narrative cycles. These narratives range from an ongoing sequence of pastel drawings and oil-on-breadboard paintings examining the cultural history of bread, to a series of sculptures, collages, paintings and performance works exploring the tension between childhood and ancestry. His writing and illustrations have been published both in print and online, and an interview for Saatchi Art’s ‘Ones to Watch’ feature was released last month.

Oscar added, “The King’s School Worcester Art Department was fundamental to my growth as an artist. Without the support and encouragement from my tutors (and the seemingly endless supply of oil paint, which I appreciate more and more every year that I am without it!), I doubt I ever would have applied to Art School, let alone got in and pursued an arts education to a postgraduate level and my career.”
