King’s Celebrates London Marathon Runners

Four runners from The King’s Worcester Community participated in the TCS London Marathon on Sunday 21 of April, each of them raising valuable funds for charity.

The London Marathon has become an annual, inspirational, and colourful fixture in the world’s sporting calendar since the inaugural race on 29 March 1981: a celebration of fun, fundraising and fancy dress. Every year, members of the King’s community join the thousands of runners who take to the streets of London.

This year, OVs Alfie Pritchard (S 10-17), Ed Bolton (K 79-89), and Philip Malsbury (Br 82-89) all triumphantly ran the marathon.

Alfie Pritchard joined the London Marathon during on his incredible 1000 miles in 30 days John O’Groats to Land’s End Challenge, raising money for St Richard’s Hospice. Over £9,400 has been raised so far in his challenge.

OV Ed Bolton ran the marathon to raise money for Parkinson’s UK, in memory of his dad, John Bolton, and Philip Malsbury joined the runners for his first London Marathon in memory of his late father, raising money for The Fragile X Society.

King’s peripatetic music teacher Dr Lara James also completed her yearlong intensive training programme and took to the streets of London to raise money for the Audiology Department at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham via the University Hospital Birmingham Charity.

Dr James, a keen Park Run participant, had only previously run a 10km distance, but decided to take on the marathon in thanks to the hospital for the support she received two years ago.

Dr James said, “I never dreamt that I would train for a marathon, let alone have the chance to take part in the iconic London event. By doing so, I just wanted to give something back to all the amazing medics who helped me. I was so happy to be able to take part; it was the most phenomenal experience and all the people cheering me on was just amazing.”
