OVs Running for St Richard’s

On 1 April 2024, OV Alfie Pritchard (S 10-17 and Old Hawfordian) will be donning his running shoes to complete an incredible 1000 miles in 30 days, making his way from John O’Groats to Land’s End via London, where he will be taking part in the London Marathon on 21 April!

Alfie’s main incentive for completing this journey is to raise money for St Richard’s Hospice. He explains, “The charity has cared for family members and close friends during their illnesses, so is one close to my heart, offering a chance for me to give back. A major aim of the run is not only to raise as much money as possible for St Richard’s but also to get as many people as possible to join me as I make my way south.”

The route Alfie will be taking goes through many towns and cities, providing the opportunity for friends and supporters to join him for a short or long stretch. In addition to friends and family already committed, Alfie also has several running clubs joining him along the route, as well as OV friends such as James Smalley (Br 10-17), who will be running the Northampton leg, with many more joining Alfie when he reaches London. James added, “Knowing Alfie as I do, this challenge typifies him in so many ways. It manages to encompass his talent for pushing himself physically to such extreme levels in conjunction with the immense amount of care and affection he shows towards those important to him, and perhaps above all else, the always-open offer of sharing a cold beer and a laugh at the end of a hard day!”

Alfie is simultaneously launching a new active wear clothing brand, Crocodile Pie, which he has set up with his brother, OV Joe Pritchard (Os 12-19 and Old Hawfordian). The brothers will release clothing “drops”, collaborating with charities so that 25% of profits made from each collection will be donated to the associated charity; the first partnering is with St Richard’s Hospice.

Good luck, Alfie, and to all those who join you.
