King’s OV set to take part in Iconic Boat Race

OV Luke Beever (S 15-22), who attended King’s Hawford Prep School and then King’s Worcester, started his rowing journey at King’s and is set to represent the Cambridge Boat Club on Sunday, racing in the annual Oxford v Cambridge Boat Race.

Luke, who was captain of boats at King’s Worcester, is the youngest rower in both boats at only 20 and one of only two undergraduates taking part in the race itself.

Luke, who also played in the King’s 1^st XV rugby team, developed his passion for rowing whilst at King’s. During his time at King’s Luke represented the school over several years winning numerous medals, racing twice at Henley Royal Regatta, was British Rowing Indoor Champion and in his final year gained his Great Britain cap in the Men’s U19 Quad Sculls.

This isn’t the first time Luke has represented Cambridge Boat Club; he was selected for Cambridge’s Reserve Crew, Goldie, in 2023 and 2024, beating Oxford boat by just one length. This year, Luke takes up his position in the race amongst Olympians and international athletes.

King’s Worcester, Head of Rowing, Jim Chalmers, said , “It is rare for an undergraduate to be selected for this crew, which is real credit to Luke and his unshakable commitment and talent for rowing. To even be part of this incredible team and surrounded by world class athletes is an experience that Luke will remember for a long time. He has been an inspiration to all in the Boat Club. In the men’s competition, Cambridge are the current champions and lead the way with the most wins since the race’s inception. The 2025 edition of the Boat Race between the two universities will take place on Sunday, 13^th April, at 14:21.
