OV Doctor Inspires Next Generation Of Medics.

We have been so grateful to OV Chris Perks (Cr 80-82) who has generously donated his time to speak with our King’s Worcester Medical Society (Med Soc) run by Head of Biology Matt Parkin (Hon OV).

Due to the pandemic, Med Soc currently meet virtually and Chris has dialled in to two meetings now, the first to talk about his career as a whole and on the second occasion to discuss medical ethics, specifically the topic of consent.

Chris has had a wonderfully varied career. As a GP in Pershore he had a specialist interest in ENT. For 13 years Chris has been Chief Medical Officer at the Shelsley Walsh motorsport event (he very much enjoys that, saying “a career in medicine can open many doors, not just in an office”). Chris has also acted as Trek Doctor on four occasions for the King’s School Worcester Himalayan Club expeditions.

Chris told us “Since retiring in 2019 I’ve been mentoring younger GPs, as well as helping to develop a teaching program that focuses on the business and partnership skills that sit alongside a GP’s clinical duties”.

As not only an OV but also a former King’s parent, Chris told us he enjoys maintaining contact with the School through careers and mentorship events like this. He also said of his time at King’s that it “had a big impact on me, and I’ve enjoyed giving something back.”

A big thank you to Chris for his time sharing his experiences, helping to inspire and inform a new generation of eager medics.
