OV Head

Our congratulations to OV James Mercer-Kelly (W 89-96) whose career has stepped up apace with the appointment as Head at The Kingsley School – an independent day school for girls aged 3-18 and for boys aged 3-11 in Leamington Spa, and part of the Warwick Independent Schools Foundation.

This tops an already illustrious career in education, which began with teaching Science at The Cherwell School, having completed his Masters in Chemistry at the University of Oxford and subsequent PGCE. From there, James moved to Headington School in Oxford, where, alongside his teaching commitments, James’ Assistant Head role focused on pupil performance and development, including Oxbridge preparation and careers education and guidance. James’ next step was Senior Deputy Head at Wycombe Abbey where his skills for helping people developed, looking after staff professional development and ensuring the school ran smoothly on a day-to-day basis.

Commenting on the appointment, James said, “I am thrilled to be taking on this new challenge at Kingsley; it is a wonderful school with a focus on producing well-rounded individuals who are confident and able to speak their own mind. I have always loved being in education; both as a student and as a teacher. Throughout my time at King’s Worcester, I greatly appreciated the opportunities given to me and the time invested in me by staff to nurture my talents and interests. Being on the other side now, I have always found by career to be incredibly rewarding, and it is a huge privilege to help young people discover their passions and motivation. I am looking forward to leading my new team at Kingsley and helping the school develop from strength to strength in the coming years.”

While at King’s Worcester, not only was James a Scholar and a House Prefect, but he was also heavily involved in the Choir, Chamber Choir and Keys Society, Drama, and represented the School with the Fencing Club as well as in the Masterminds of Science at the national final – demonstrating his affinity for enjoying hard work, challenges and creativity!

James takes up his new post in January 2022 and we would like to wish him all the very best for this exciting new chapter.
