OV guitarist, singer and song-writer Nick Tsang (Br 99-04) is making his mark on the music industry and was recently featured as a BBC Introducing Artist of the Week!
In the interview, which you can listen to via the link below, the standard of Nick’s music is described as, “extraordinarily high” and Nick reveals modestly that he “just makes music that I like”. After King’s, Nick went to music college in Guildford before moving to London which is a great place to start in the music industry. Nick formed Amberlake, using the name of the Chinese takeaway his Grandad set up when he came to Worcester. OVs may know Amberlake as The Rooster.
Amberlake has an ethereal style of music inspired by Nick’s passion for nostalgic, cinematic artists such as Coldplay and Gabrielle Aplin. It can be tough to break into the music industry and financially it can be a challenge for new artists but Nick says in the interview,
"I just fully believe if you love what you do just crack on with it and financially all that stuff will come along"
As well as the Amberlake project, Nick has also co-written songs for artists such as Jess Glynne and toured internationally alongside artists including Busted, The Backstreet Boys and Ed Sheeran.
We asked Nick about his amazing journey so far and he says, “I’ve been incredibly lucky to play guitar and write for some of the biggest artists in the world. From all the inspiration that I’ve drawn through travelling and my experiences, I feel it’s about time to share some of my own songs! I’m very honoured to have BBC Introducing support me at the start of my journey.”
