OV Mohan makes a Memorable Return to King’s

Having not returned to King’s since leaving after his A-levels, it was wonderful to welcome OV Dr Mohan Gondhalekar (Cl 98-05) back to School this month!

Walking around the site accompanied by Alumni Office Administrator, Trish Webb, Mohan met a number of his former teachers still at King’s, including Dr Mark Poole (Hon OV), Chris Haywood (Hon OV) and Richard Davis (Hon OV). Mohan was very happy to be recognised and remembered with such affection considering the years that have passed!

Commenting on the school itself, Mohan noted that some buildings hadn’t changed at all (including the smell of them!), enjoying the contrast with the newer additions, including the Keyes Building, the Michael Baker Boathouse, and the recently renovated School House, home to the Matthew Armstrong Library and Café 1541. The Keyes Building especially resonated with Mohan, as Tim Keyes (Hon OV), after whom the building is named, had been his headmaster.

Due to the exams in College Hall, Mohan couldn’t go in but vividly remembered sitting his own exams in the illustrious building!

An avid cricket fan, Mohan had enjoyed cricket during his time at King’s – seeing the Peter Iddon Cricket Pavilion and nets across the river from the School Gardens, themselves unchanged since he was here, brought back some great memories.

The final stop for the pair was the Biology block, where Mohan had a great time reminiscing with Dr Matthew Parkin (Hon OV), who Mohan attributes to him studying medicine. Mohan shared some of the highlights of his career path so far with Dr Parkin, more of which you can read in Beyond King’s. Mohan also discussed his imminent move to Australia with his family, to take up a Permanent Consultant Psychiatrist position in the Gold Coast.

We wish Mohan the very best for his move ‘down under’ and with his new role!
