We are very grateful to OV Rowan Kitt (Ch 77-87), who took a break from his usual TMO duties to come back to King’s, don his rugby boots and referee King’s Worcester’s 1st XV vs QEH at the weekend.
Although both teams put on a fantastic show in the sunshine, the King’s boys were the superior team on the day and comfortably won the match 39-18. They were cheered on by friends and family, joined on the side-lines by many OVs who were there to support the King’s Rugby family so soon after losing much-loved Marc Roberts (Hon OV). Development Director, Liz Elliott and Head of Alumni Relations, Sophie Borillo-McLellan, were delighted to meet with OVs at the match and to hear memories of King’s rugby days.
Rowan has been heavily involved with Rugby for many years, having started his career while at King’s, representing the School in the 1st XV.
Rowan added, “It was very nostalgic to be back on the King’s fields, but particularly poignant with the recent news about the great Marc Roberts. He was due to attend the QEH match and I’m sure he would have liked the result! He coached so many teams on these pitches and inspired a huge number of people to play and enjoy rugby. He emailed me virtually every week about refereeing and other rugby issues; he was unfailingly incisive and passionate about the game and was always interested in former pupils from King’s.”
Thank you Rowan, and we look forward to welcoming you back to King’s again soon.
