OV Will is QUEST Scholar
Congratulations to OV Will Chapman (Ca 14-21 and King’s Hawford), who has been awarded a QUEST Scholarship from the Institute of Civil Engineers (ICE).
QUEST – the Queen’s Jubilee Scholarship Trust – was set up to encourage young people pursuing a career in civil engineering. A QUEST scholarship consists of a monetary grant over the course of the recipient’s study, summer placements with the company that chose them and a graduate job at the end of it.
Will explains further, “To apply for the scholarship, I had to write a personal statement-esque essay, talking about my competencies and experiences, and include a reference. Companies involved as sponsors of the QUEST scholarship then choose whether they select you for an interview. After completing the round of interviews, the company that stood out to me was called ‘Tony Gee’. I put them as my top choice, and they reached out to me with the scholarship.
“Tony Gee is a forward-thinking company with sustainability and net-zero carbon emissions as their core philosophy. Some of the projects they are working on include docks, bridges, hospitals, nuclear plants, Wembley Stadium, and airports.
“Obviously, it means a lot to me to be offered this, not only because of the financial benefits, but also because of the connections I can make and on-the-job experience I’ll receive. I feel like this will be very beneficial both to my studies and my career afterwards.”
This is such great news, Will; many congratulations.
