OVs and Newbies at the Oxford Union

Dr Ronan McLaverty-Head (Hon OV), Rev’d Dr Mark Dorsett (Hon OV) and Catriona Rees were delighted to accept an invitation from OV and President of the Oxford Union, Charlie Mackintosh (Cr 13-20 and Old Hawfordian) to bring some Sixth Form students to a debate at the Oxford Union on 2 February 2023.

The evening included a Q&A with special guest, The Rt Hon Matt Hancock MP, followed by a debate on gay marriage in the Church of England. Prior to this, U6 student George C took to the floor not once but twice in the warm-up debate, known as the ‘Emergency Debate’; this was a rarity for the Union (even more so considering George will be heading to Cambridge in the autumn, not Oxford!).

While there, the Hon OVs and current King’s students also had the opportunity to catch up with OVs at Oxford, including Charlie, of course; they very much enjoyed meeting Edd Peckston (K 10-17), Edmund Poel (Os 14-20) and Tom Angell (Cr 16-21) too.
