Presidents Golf Cup with Tiger Woods

We love this super news from OV Chris Barlow (Ca 59-64) who recently met Tiger Woods when he was in Melbourne promoting the Presidents Golf Cup!

After many years of working in the airport industry in the UK Chris moved to Melbourne in 2000 to be CEO and Managing Director of Melbourne and Launceston airports. Whilst Chris may be remembered as a reasonable cricketer, when at King’s, (captain of cricket at Kings and Worcester Schools, together with playing for England schools) he took up rowing on the beautiful Yarra river in Melbourne at the age of 54. He continues to do this twice a week in the early hours.  He wishes now he could have done both in his days at King’s!

He also may be remembered as one of the half dozen boys suspended for having half a pint in a local pub! He and a friend borrowed a school tent and went fishing near Bath, camping next to a pub. How times have changed for the better.

Chris retired from full time work 10 years ago but took up several board positions in Australia. Now he is chair of Darwin and Alice Springs airport and is on two State Tourism Boards, which explains why he met Tiger.

He is also on the Board of Australian Rail and Track Corporation which is responsible for most of the freights tracks in Australia. The company is building a $11 billion new freight line from Melbourne to Brisbane.

Chris finds time to play golf a couple of times a week on the superb Sandbelt Courses around Melbourne and the occasional game of tennis. He says this is testament to the opportunities on offer at King’s to participate in many sports.
