Reuniting with OVs at Loughborough University

It was wonderful for Chris Atkinson (Hon OV) to catch up with some OVs on a trip to Loughborough University on 9 November 2022, when he was escorting members of the King’s Athlete Development Programme (ADP) around his alma mater.

OVs Loughborough George Boyle and King's ADP students

George Boyle (Ch 20-22) started at Loughborough this September and joined the King’s group for lunch and the afternoon activities. He was able to answer lots of questions from some of the current King’s rugby players about sport at Loughborough, and student life in general.

OVs Loughborough Chris Atkinson and Sam Khogali

Sam Khogali (S 08-15) is an alumnus of Loughborough and an England and GB long-jumper. He was completing a training session in the impressive indoor Athletics Centre and popped over to say hello to the King’s contingent. With a current PB of 7m83cm, Sam’s athletics is going well, and he is pushing hard for further National recognition.

OVs Loughborough Alex Ward playing

They also managed to wave to Alex Ward (Cl 13-20), who is a current student, playing on the netball court, but, unfortunately, didn’t get to say hello on this occasion.

Teachers always enjoy meeting OVs and hearing how they’re getting on with life after school and it was tremendous to see all these OVs flourishing. Chris added, “It’s always great to see former students and I really enjoyed catching up with the boys. It was a shame that we didn’t get actually to speak to Alex on this occasion but, nonetheless, it was lovely to see her.”
