Sad News of the Death of OV Stephen Cleobury

At King’s we were deeply saddened to learn of the death of OV Sir Stephen Cleobury CBE (Ch 58-67) who passed away on 22nd November. Stephen was an outstanding conductor, organist, composer and choirmaster and it all began as a chorister at Worcester Cathedral.

Many will know Stephen best for his role as Director of Music at King’s College Cambridge and especially for conducting the choir in the Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols broadcast every Christmas Eve. Stephen retired this year after 37 years of service.

Earlier this year, Stephen was knighted in the Queen’s Birthday Honours for services to choral music.
