Success for King’s Rowers at West Midlands Junior Rowing Championships

On Sunday, 2nd March, over 90 King’s rowers took to the River Wye at Hereford Rowing Club to compete in the annual West Midlands Junior Rowing Championships. This prestigious event also serves the selection for the West Midlands team to race in April’s Junior Inter Regional Regatta at the National Water Sports Centre.

We boated 45 crews against the against the finest rowers in the region, with some of our Lower Removes experiencing their first ever race. The early morning frost quickly gave way to glorious spring sunshine, setting the stage for an exhilarating day of fast-paced racing from King’s rowers in front of a large and enthusiastic crowd.

The first division saw our senior boys dominate in the quad sculls, securing the championship with an unbeatable time that held throughout the day.

In division two, our senior girls claimed victory in the coxed four, triumphing over Shrewsbury School. Elliott B and Harry W earned their second title in the double scull, while twins Florence and Henrietta V took first place in the Year 10 girls’ double scull.

Division three brought more success, particularly in the Year 9 and 10 girls’ quad sculls. Florence and Henrietta teamed up with Evie G, Issy W, and cox Oliver C to secure a commanding win. Meanwhile, our Year 9 girls – Imogen B, Anya R, Hermione H, Henrietta H, and Zofia W – delivered an outstanding performance in their first ever race, overcoming the competition to take the championship.

It was an exceptional day for all King’s rowers, with each one showcasing the results of their dedication and rigorous winter training.

We are delighted to announce that eight of our crews have been selected to represent King’s and the West Midlands at the national event in April.
