An Inspiring Step into Senior School: Year 6 Transition Afternoon

This week Year 6 pupils from King’s St Alban’s and King’s Hawford enjoyed an exciting transition visit to King’s Worcester, filled with exploration, creativity and new experiences.

The visit showcased the very best of what King’s Worcester has to offer, blending the historic with the modern. Pupils climbed the famous spiral staircase to reach the country’s oldest classroom, where they explored Classics and even designed their own Roman coins, bringing history to life in a truly memorable way. As one pupil reflected, “In Classics we designed our own Roman coins with symbols of our power and success. It was a very enjoyable afternoon that has made me look forward to moving up to Big Kings.”

The afternoon continued with a carousel of engaging lessons across the school. In maths, pupils tackled number challenges that really got them thinking, with one pupil commenting, “Maths was fun, exciting and cool. Pupils from King’s Hawford helped me when I got the answer wrong.” In history, pupils worked together to solve a gripping murder mystery, with another pupil saying, “In history we were solving a crime, it was so much fun.”

Pupils also spent time in the drama studios, exploring moods and themes through creative activities. One pupil shared, “I had Drama, the teacher was very enthusiastic and it was so much fun.” The day ended on a high note too, with a well-earned treat: “We finished the afternoon with squash and cookies, it was amazing!”

It was wonderful to see pupils mixing so confidently, supporting one another and embracing new challenges. Their reflections said it all: “It was a great afternoon run by amazing new teachers, who I can’t wait to see again in September,” and “The senior school transition afternoon was a fascinating and pleasant experience.” Another pupil added, “After the transition afternoon I now feel more comfortable with the senior school and where the different departments are located.”

A truly successful afternoon that gave pupils a real insight into senior school life and plenty to be excited about for the future.
