Sports Round Up: Week 5

U9/8 A v Hereford Cathedral – CA

A great afternoon of cricket, saw lots of good play, with the team showing improvement as the season progresses. Marnie and Will set the standard with the bat, getting us off to a good start. Archie, Ben and Harry also contributed well, playing some really nice shots and they kept the scoreboard ticking over nicely. Nell’s bowling was very good and opened our attack really well. Her line and length were excellent, and the opposition only scored two runs off the over. We also managed to take a couple of wickets in this over, with some excellent fielding. As well as a run out, Charlotte showed a safe pair of hands to take a good catch above her head. Louie closed out the bowling and, having gotten his eye in, bowled with good pace. This kept the opposition at bay and allowed the result to tip in our favour. Another enjoyable afternoon of enjoyment and learning in the glorious sunshine.

U9/8 B v Hereford Cathedral – CH

The sun was shining down on our beautiful fields on Tuesday afternoon, which really added to what was a brilliant afternoon. Luca won the toss for King’s St Alban’s and elected to bowl first. We bowled well and really focused on trying to keep the ball as straight as possible as well as bowling a good length. Both Emma and Maddie were the stand out bowlers, both restricting the Hereford sides run rate. With our smart bowling and awareness in the field, we kept the Hereford score to 88. It was then King’s St Alban’s turn to bat. To say I was impressed with our batting would be an understatement. We scored a brilliant 8 boundaries through Ben D, Albert M-H, Brody, Luca and Harry D. Special mention goes to Harry D who was striking the ball excellently and two of his shots went sailing over the boundary for 6 runs! Well done on an impressive afternoon of cricket.

U9/8 C v Hereford Cathedral – ED

Another sunny afternoon at Hereford where the U9/8 team came away with a convincing win. All the kids worked hard and showcased some amazing skills through their batting and fielding. Everyone bowled 6 balls and you could see their confidence and accuracy improve throughout. Well done to everyone for stepping up for the challenge. Congratulations to Ivy for getting a great wicket. Lots of 4s were hit as well as a brilliany catch by Mark! Player of the match went to Mark.

U9/8 D v Hereford Cathedral – AR

The King’s St Alban’s team had a great afternoon of cricket against Hereford Cathedral this week winning their game by 14 runs. The team fielded first and displayed some excellent deliveries while bowling at the Hereford batters, with Yifei making two incredible catches. Alban, Jasper and Crispin also picked up wickets after bowling well. When it came to batting, each batting pair faced three overs and they did remarkably well to only lose two wickets, with excellent boundary hits by Crispin and Jasper. Hannah and Millie worked well together in their pair and so too did Georgia and Skye, communicating well at the crease. Well done everyone!

U9/8 E v Hereford Cathedral – AJ

The children had a lovely afternoon of cricket over at Hereford on Tuesday. They won the toss and elected to field first. There was some excellent over arm bowling and all children got balls on target. We kept them to 266 runs. Well done to Emily F who was awarded the opposition’s bowler of the match. When it was our turn to bat, there was some good hits and a couple of fours.  However, we did need to choose when to run a little more as there were definitely some singles we could have got. It was a very close game; one we could not predict until we totted up the final scores. Well done to George C who was awarded opposition batter of the match, for some excellent hits. Hereford just managed to keep the led by 2, 266 to 264. Well done all, a super afternoon.

U9/8 F v Hereford Cathedral – CP

The U9/8 team had a fantastic afternoon of cricket in the sun. Hereford Cathedral opened the batting in what was to be an educational game of cricket. The girls started well, focusing on aiming the ball at the stumps and hitting the right length. Particularly impressive with the ball was Mia Y, whose deliveries were consistent. As a team, we fielded well, returning the ball to the bowler with relative efficiency. When it was our turn to bat, the whole team was impressive. The girls really focused on keeping their back foot planted and stepping their front foot towards the ball. Tilly E was brilliant, hitting shots with good technique. The most encouraging part of her batting was her communication, something we need to keep working on in training. Tilly was clear and concise on when to run, and when to wait. Overall, it was a brilliant effort from all the team. Well done girls!
