At King’s St Alban’s, Years 5 and 6 children enjoy a Wednesday afternoon of AFP (Activities, Fixtures, PSHE) which gives a range of immense opportunities. Our children could be involved in fixtures, or in engaging with residents of a local care home or charity, or in learning to make flapjacks! The opportunities are endless.
The beginning of half term is a great time for reflection and to celebrate all that’s been achieved over the past two months. Whilst we’ve had to operate in the ‘new normal’ our children have continued to take part in a vast range of activities during their afternoon AFP sessions.
Sports has play a central part of our programme and since we’ve started the new academic year, we’ve hosted inter-house cricket, inter-house swimming, netball and even a virtual Swimming Gala against Warwick Prep.
We’ve also explored our creativity with art activities, which have included outdoor art using autumnal leaves and seeds to make pictures, and swimming art inspired by David Hockney’s ‘The Splash’. Some Year 5 pupils also created artwork in the style of Japanese ‘Notan‘.
Sherlock Holmes story writing was also introduced to some classes, while others did some cross-stitching. Both were a massive hit with our children and allowed them to explore their interests, creativity and talented.
