Book Fair: igniting a passion for books!

Following the resounding success of book fairs in pre-COVID times, King’s St Alban’s pupils have been delighted to see the return of the Scholastic Book Fair this week. The pop-up style book fair celebrates reading, bringing the very best books directly to our pupils whilst generating rewards for the School to spend on free books for the school libraries and elsewhere.

Whilst enabling pupils to browse and purchase books to read at home, book fairs offer a great opportunity for the School to buy a wide selection of books for the main library as well as classroom libraries. Up to 60p in every £1 spent is given back to the School in providing free books, helping us to make sure that there are always some new and exciting books available to our pupils. There were hundreds of fantastic books on offer which the children and parents alike enjoyed browsing; in fact there were over 200 of the newest and best books from over 60 publishers, including exclusive titles you won’t see in the local bookshop! Parents had the perfect opportunity to buy early Christmas presents for their children to read over the Christmas period!

Held in the Chapel, the book fair was open at break and lunch times, with each class also having the opportunity to visit during their English lessons. Parents were also able to browse too, as the event coincided with our Autumn Term parents’ meetings.

Mr Chapman, Headmaster of King’s St Alban’s commented, “It is clear that the children have loved browsing and choosing books. There was a super buzz about books and more importantly a great excitement and enthusiasm for reading.”
