U9/8 A v Springfield
The U9/8 cricket team kicked their season off at Springfield in an action-packed match. King’s batted first, and our early order batters laid a strong foundation. The focus in our batting was driving through the ball and communicating when to run, both things with which the team impressed us. Louie F and Marnie P were fantastic in bat, both hitting the boundary a few times and communicating clearly with their opposite batter. By the end of the innings, King’s had hit a very respectable score, leaving Springfield the hard task of chasing. At the changeover, King’s bowled and fielded well. Our bowlers were concentrating on keeping their line and length consistent; Charlotte H was particularly impressive, bowling right on off-stump every ball. As a result, she was rewarded with a maiden over and a wicket. The team was mostly alert in the field and demonstrated some impressive fielding. There are, however, things we need to work on in training, such as attacking the ball, and keeping your body behind it. Overall, it was a huge success, well done team!
U9/8 B v Springfield
Some very pleasing cricket was on display from our Years 3 and 4 pupils at Springfield on Tuesday. The bowling was more accurate and fewer extras were given away. Well done to Luca and Crispin, whose bowling figures were particularly good. It was great to see some boundaries scored, with Phoebe hitting a four and Luca and Albert both hitting sixes. In the field we saw some keen chasing of the ball and the three run-outs won us the match.
U9/8 A v King’s Hawford
What a great start to the cricket season it was for the U9/U8 cricket team this week. The players really enjoyed the game against King’s Hawford and displayed a very impressive performance in both batting and bowling. Each batting pair played for three overs and they performed some really good shots, developing their confidence well and looking very comfortable at the crease. Ben J, Archie and Nell each hit excellent boundary shots, and nobody in the team was out. The team bowled very well, with Ariya and Edith each getting a wicket, and Romi and Ben D displayed some excellent throwing and catching skills in the field.
U9/8 B v King’s Hawford
On a sunny Tuesday afternoon, we travelled to Hawford for what was for many their first competitive game of cricket of the year. Everyone attempted over-arm bowling and real improvement was seen as the innings progressed. Hannah’s line and length in particular showed good progress. When it was our turn to bat, Martha and Henry put together an impressive opening partnership, getting us off to a good start. As part of the second pair, Alban played some nice shots, and it was only the slow outfield that stopped him from getting a four. Ivy was equally impressive at the other end, keeping the scoreboard ticking over. She also managed to get that elusive boundary. We just about managed to squeeze out a few more runs than the opposition, but the afternoon was more about learning lessons to take through the rest of the season.
U9/8 B v King’s Hawford
It was a glorious afternoon for cricket and the team stepped up to the challenge. Lots of skills have been worked on throughout our games sessions and these were incorporated into the match play. The fielding was strong, as everyone worked well as a team to stop Hawford from getting their runs. Jasper and Che made some superb throws, both getting a wicket. A special shout out goes to Millie for some great hits and being awarded Player of the Match.
U9/8 B v King’s Hawford
The children had a lovely afternoon of cricket up at King’s Hawford. For many this was their first cricket match and all children managed to bowl over-arm, which was an excellent feat, but we will need to go back and focus on our batting. Hawford narrowly won but the children’s attitudes were impressive, particularly for giving the over-arm bowling a go. Well done all.
U10 A v King’s Hawford
The U10s made an impressive start to the cricket term against King’s Hawford on Wednesday. King’s St Alban’s bowled first and started strongly, with Reuben and Emily S taking the important wickets of batters who were looking dangerous. Rook and Harry S also bowled superbly and both came away with a wicket; Harry’s caught and bowled was an early contender of catch of the season! The ball was hit hard back at Harry and he showed brilliant reactions to get his hands in the correct position and take the catch! Hawford gave KSA a target of 112.
The stand out bowlers were Reuben (2 Overs, 1 Runs, 1 Wicket) , Tom (2 Overs, 10 Runs, 0 Wickets), Harry S (2 Overs, 6 Runs, 1 Wicket), Emily (2 Overs, 18 Runs, 1 Wicket) and Rook (2 Overs, 15 Runs, 1 Wicket).
Jack P and Monty opened the batting and looked threatening. Monty was unfortunately defeated by a brilliant ball, which took out middle stump. Overall our batting was good and sets a high standard to work on throughout the rest of the term. We just fell short of our target but the team’s performance was impressive nevertheless.
U10 B v King’s Hawford
The U10 Bs played King’s Hawford in glorious weather down at our fields. With the Cathedral as a backdrop, it was bound to be a fantastic day. KSA won the toss and chose to bowl, which we did very effectively. Rory S and Otto E were fantastic, and both came away with a wicket. We were impressed with their consistency and accuracy, both things we have worked hard on in training. Our bowlers were backed up by some immense fielding, led by Sam T, who took a brilliant catch, and both Lottie F and James A were extremely active in the field. When it was our turn to bat, Helena and Lottie S were both impressive. The focus of the batting had been set as communicating when to run and stepping the front foot towards the ball. Some of the calls were impressive, but there were certainly a few runs missed due to poor communication; this is something that can be worked on in training. Hawford bowled well, and Lottie S, our Captain for the day, batted fantastically, hitting the boundary off some tricky bowling. Well done team!
U10 B v King’s Hawford
Wednesday was another sunny afternoon of cricket. Fielding first, the team worked well, adapting to situations and thinking quickly on the spot, which resulted in many run-outs. Everyone had a go at bowling and they were brilliant. After swapping over to bat, they worked well in their chosen pairs, communicating well and scoring some great runs. Well done to Millie for scoring a four! KSA took the overall win, scoring 281. A special shout out goes to Arslan for be recognised as Player of the Match.
U10 B v King’s Hawford
It was wonderful to have so many Year 5 pupils involved in cricket fixtures on Wednesday. The sun was shining as the pupils excitedly welcomed lots of familiar faces from King’s Hawford. For many children in the team it was their first ever cricket fixture. Evie R and Henry S confidently opened the batting for KSA, scoring an impressive 19 runs in three overs. Jacob, Aelwen, Shreya and Lily G all batted well, putting more runs on the board. Our final pair of Aaron and George B scored a super 22, including two fours and a six!
All the KSA pupils bowled one and a half overs each. They all started with some over-arm bowling, which is a difficult skill to master! Evie R, Aaron and George B all took wickets. There was a lovely, supportive atmosphere and both teams were given tips with their bowling and batting skills. It was fantastic to see the improvements within just a few overs. It was a close match, which we eventually won by 10 runs. After the match, the two teams bonded over a cricket tea in the pavilion. Fingers crossed the warm, sunny weather continues for the rest of the cricket season!
U11 A v King’s Hawford
Our U11 cricketers played against a very evenly matched King’s Hawford team this week and were unfortunate to lose the game. KSA bowled first and were very impressive, with highlights including Ralphie’s bowling, which took two wickets, that of Barnaby, who bowled a wicket maiden over, and Jack’s, who bowled an excellent double wicket maiden over. Erin and Eshal also bowled very well, displaying good line and length with their deliveries. When it came to batting, the team struggled on the new grass wicket, with the ball not bouncing well, but managed to put in a good effort to try to chase down Hawford’s total. Peter displayed the best batting of the day, with some beautiful boundary shots, and Harry was just getting into his stride when he was unfortunately caught out after playing some great shots.
U11 B v King’s Hawford
This was a very close match, with our bowling showing real improvement from the last game. Well done to Connor and Ace, who only had three runs scored off their overs. Our players must aim to attack the shots a little more confidently, but well done to Connor and Evie, who both hit boundaries. Lucy and Penny were our strongest batting pair, communicating well between the wickets and maximising their chances for runs. Although we scored more actual runs than Hawford, our three wickets were costly, as we consequently lost the match by an aggregate of two runs.
U11 C v King’s Hawford
The children had a lovely afternoon in the sun, with lots of good bowling from both sides but a few more hits from King’s Hawford. Well done to Hawford, who narrowly won, and well done to Georgina N, who was awarded Opposition Player of the Match.
U9 Tri Golf Festival
What a lovely afternoon we had on Thursday! We took 10 of our Year 4 pupils to Lower Wick Driving Range to compete against 12 other teams, made up of 130 pupils in total. It was a first for us and it was lovely to play and mix with many other of our local primary schools. We enjoyed having a go at something different and the older pupils from Christopher Whitehead Language College, who were leading the activities, were brilliant.
A rotation of activities tested accurate hitting the ball and we were delighted to score 968 points, which placed us second in the competition.
