Chess Club Champions Awarded Prizes
This term, 33 children from Years 3 to 6 have attended the lunchtime chess clubs at school. Children have improved their chess and taken part in four exciting internal school tournaments.
Mr Berry, our chess teacher, reported that highlights included a close finish in Year 3, where Charles B and Archie G were unlucky to miss out on first place with Jonty D gaining a narrow victory. Mia B just missed out on third place.
In Year 4, Sammy G achieved first place in his first ever chess competition at King’s Hawford. Well done to Sammy!
Amelie B gained another impressive win, just ahead of Isaac H in the year 5 competition. Amelie played 12 games without losing any of them!
In Year 6 Austin R, was a convincing winner of the tournament. He and Harry J (second place) each remained unbeaten throughout the 10 games they played.
Lunchtime Chess Club will return next term.
We will continue to have friendly, but competitive games in school.
However, for those children who would like to play in external competitions there will be the opportunity to take part in the UK Chess Challenge. Further information will be available on this in the New Year.
