Outstanding and Inspiring Facilities

In addition to our idyllic location, which includes more than twenty-three acres of green space for our children to explore and use, we have outstanding facilities to complement our innovative approach to teaching and learning.

We are constantly looking at ways to further develop the campus and, in addition to our own programme of investment, we receive generous support from our Parents’ Association, which does a fantastic job of raising funds to support further enhancement of our facilities.

Facilities at King's Hawford

The Barn

The Barn is a modern, spacious hall that is used on a daily basis to bring the school together. It is purpose-built to provide ultimate flexibility – whether it’s for whole-school assemblies, indoor sports, musical and drama events, or whole-school productions. Parents and families are regularly welcomed into this space to enjoy school events.

Sports Fields

The children have access to two large sports fields, which allows them to enjoy a wide range of sports throughout the year. The fields also provide plenty of space to host specialist events and festivals.

Indoor Swimming Pool

Our indoor swimming pool is heated throughout the year and is used daily. Beginning with our youngest children, aged two, pupils in all year groups enjoy regular swimming lessons and other activities in the pool. Swimming is also featured as a regular activity on our Holiday Club timetable

Dance Studio

Our Dance Studio hosts an exciting range of dance and drama activities. Dance is an integral part of our physical activity programme and is always a popular choice for after-school clubs, so we are delighted to have a dedicated and professional space that includes full-length mirrors and special flooring.

Library Bus

Our Library Bus is a refurbished London Transport double-decker bus that has been transformed into an exciting school library and puts reading at the very heart of our school. The bus contains over 450 books with titles for children of all ages to enjoy. It is open every day for book loans and reading time, and also provides a wonderful space for teachers to use for group activities.

Outdoor Play Areas

Children at King’s Hawford really do make the most of our outdoor areas. In addition to our open space, which they love to explore, we have purpose-built areas to further stimulate physical activity. These include a large wooden pirate ship, a traversing wall, a tipi, and dedicated courtyard areas for our Early Years children.

Forest School

We have two outstanding Forest School areas, so we can offer a full programme throughout the year: a dedicated Forest School area for our Early Years children, and a main Forest School area for our older children. Both spaces include plenty of natural space for children to explore, as well as carefully arranged logs to offer a base for circle time and snack time.

Katakanus

One of the benefits of our rural location is our proximity to the canal, which runs alongside our sports fields. Having access to the water offers a totally different learning experience for our children, and one that we regularly take advantage of with our Katakanus.

Katakanus are six-seater boats that are paddled like a canoe, but offer extreme levels of stability. They are perfect for introducing children to the joys of paddling, and have been very well received here at Hawford.
