Curiosity in Action: The Mystery of the Mermaid’s Purse
Year 2 have been putting their curiosity and investigative skills to excellent use after Mrs White brought in an interesting discovery she found on the beach during half term, a mysterious ‘mermaid’s purse’.
This fascinating object sparked lots of discussion and thoughtful questioning as the children worked together to investigate what it could be. They carefully considered questions such as: What is it? What is it made from? Where was it found? What might it be used for? and What would happen if it was placed in water?
Through observation, discussion and prediction, the children demonstrated fantastic enquiry skills and showed great enthusiasm for learning. Their inquisitiveness encouraged them to share ideas, listen to one another and think like real scientists as they explored different possibilities.
It has been wonderful to see the children’s natural curiosity leading their learning and developing their confidence to question, investigate and discover more about the world around them. What fantastic thinking and teamwork!
