Exciting Chess Competitions Heat Up Lunchtimes
This term, lunchtimes at King’s Hawford have been buzzing with the thrill of chess as pupils from various year groups competed in spirited chess competitions. The Summer Chess Report highlights outstanding performances and a growing enthusiasm for the game among young players.
Amelie stole the show in the Year 3 competition, demonstrating her exceptional skills by winning all her matches. Her flawless performance set a high bar for her peers. In Year 5, Lyra mirrored Amelie’s success, claiming victory without dropping a single game. Their achievements are a testament to their dedication and strategic prowess.
The Year 4 competition was particularly intense, with Austin narrowly edging out Charles in a nail-biting finish. Both boys are rapidly emerging as formidable chess players, showcasing remarkable improvement and tactical acumen.
Meanwhile, Year 2 pupils have been dedicating their lunchtimes to learning the intricacies of chess. They are laying a strong foundation and are poised to join the competitive scene next term as they transition to Year 3.
Beyond the school grounds, several King’s Hawford pupils participated in the local Megafinal competition held in early June. The event saw commendable performances from many, with girls from the school also making their mark in the “She Plays to Win” online girls chess events, demonstrating the inclusive and encouraging environment fostered at King’s Hawford.
Chess teacher Mr. Berry expressed his pride and joy at the pupils’ achievements, congratulating all prize winners and participants for their hard work and enthusiasm.
