Exploring Our Senses in Year 1

Year 1 had a fantastic time in their science lesson this week investigating their five senses. They began by discussing which parts of the body are linked to each sense, before taking part in a range of fun, hands-on activities that really put their senses to the test.

First came the smell challenge, where pupils tried to identify different scents. Most were guessed correctly, and there was clear agreement that hot chocolate and lemon were much more popular than garlic and onion! They then used their sense of touch to guess three mystery objects hidden inside a bag, before listening carefully to identify different sounds being played.

To finish, pupils wore blindfolds to remove their sense of sight and discovered just how tricky it is to build a tower out of dice without being able to see. The lesson was full of curiosity, laughter and great scientific thinking, and Year 1 did a brilliant job exploring how their senses help them understand the world around them.
