King’s Hawford Chess Club Spring Awards
It has been another exciting and rewarding term for the King’s Hawford Chess Club, with some outstanding chess played across all year groups.
The children have continued to improve in both their strategic thinking and confidence on the board. Our internal school leagues were particularly competitive this term, and the players consistently displayed excellent sportsmanship, fairness, and respect—qualities we value just as highly as skill.
The Year 4 competition was especially close. Isaac was leading his final match and looked set to take first place, but Amelie launched a clever counterattack, delivering a brilliant checkmate to win the title. It was a thrilling match to witness!
Charles was crowned the Year 5 champion, with Austin not far behind. Year 5 boasts several strong players who are showing real promise and could perform very well in external tournaments with continued practice and focus.
This term’s prize winners are:
Year 3
1st – Alexander S-C
2nd – Chester L
Year 4
1st – Amelie B
2nd – Cassian W
3rd – Isaac H
Year 5

2nd – Austin R
3rd – Freddie W
Year 6

Children from King’s Hawford Chess Club have also taken part in external chess events with great enthusiasm and success. One major event on the horizon is the Delancey UK Chess Challenge Megafinals, open to all junior players. Please find the details here.
Although local Megafinal arrangements for Worcestershire are yet to be confirmed, children are encouraged to enter other regional events—or participate online.
Well done to all our young chess enthusiasts for their dedication and achievements this term!
