Love of books apparent during ‘Be a Bookworm Week’

Mrs Atkinson and Mr Braithwaite kicked off ‘Be a Bookworm Week’ during Monday’s assembly where they shared the plan for the week and read extracts from some of their favourite children’s books.

There was a definite buzz about the school as the children were enthused by all the activities. The class ‘travelling book’ has proven a favourite in recent years; the children enjoyed being read to at the start of lessons, whether in the swimming pool (by the poolside!), art room or in their usual classrooms.

It has been lovely to observe the enthusiasm around school as the children have discussed and shared the books they love with their friends and classmates. Books have been reviewed in lively style. Meanwhile, pupils have created book covers and blurbs of their own for their favourite reads. The ‘get caught reading’ competition also proved popular, with children photographed reading in a variety of unusual locations.

On Thursday, the official World Book Day, there was a plethora of wonderful costumes from the many characters of Harry Potter and Matilda to the Very Hungry Caterpillar, the Tiger Who Came to Tea and Pugley himself. The children were excited to see if they could spot their friends and teachers in disguise!

It has proved a thoroughly enjoyable week. Great to see the culture we have at KSA of a love of books and of reading.  Long may this continue!
