Pupils get stuck into mindful GYM!
Pupils at King’s St Alban’s have thoroughly enjoyed sharing with their teachers and friends their first mindful GYM homework project of the year. For those families new to the school, GYM homework stands for “Grow Your Mind”. For one weekend every half term, children from all year groups across King’s St Alban’s have the option, if they would like to, to choose an activity to complete from a themed grid. The theme for this half term was Mindfulness.
Due to the lovely weather over the weekend, getting out in nature was a popular choice. Lots of families were out and about on mindful autumnal walks and participating in mindful outdoor activities such as practising riding a bike; one of our nursery children even caught a carp while out fishing with his family! Some children chose to complete an exercise activity where they were mindful of how their body felt during exercise and during recovery; this ranged from energetic workout routines at home to bouncing through caves on trampolines in Snowdonia!
Spending time away from screens, such as reading books in cosy dens and playing board games, was a great way to unwind for many children this weekend. Helping to make a healthy meal for the family was also popular, with some delicious, hearty soups prepared and enjoyed.
As ever the children impressed us with their arts and crafts skills. Beautiful pieces of wild art had been made by creating collages using natural items and some children made colourful posters illustrating what made them happy. Making homemade playdough and stress balls was also a popular option with the younger children.
Well done, everyone! We loved seeing and hearing about your mindful moments over the weekend. We look forward to seeing what you make and do from the Christmas themed grid next half term.
