King's Hawford
18 June
Prep Sports Day
On Friday 13th June, we celebrated one of the most eagerly awaited events in the school calendar – the annual King’s Hawford Prep Sports Day. Over the course of the summer term, pupils from Years 3 to 6 dedicated their PE lessons with Mr Hodgkins to prepare for their chosen track and field events, and their hard work was clear for all to see.
Blessed with glorious sunshine throughout the day, the children competed with outstanding determination, resilience, and enthusiasm. The morning field events showcased some truly exceptional talent, with many pupils achieving personal bests and demonstrating superb technique.
Standout performances included Frank and Cassian, who both set new school records in the high jump for Years 3 and 4 with leaps of 1.10m and 1.16m respectively. In the Year 6 high jump, Thomas C soared to 1.32m, smashing his previous personal best by more than 25cm. In the long jump, Alice delivered a spectacular performance, setting a new Year 3 school record of 3.14m. Equally impressive was Marnie’s remarkable javelin throw of 20.50m, eclipsing the previous Year 6 record by over 6 metres.
The afternoon was dedicated to the ever-thrilling track events, with the bottom field buzzing with energy as a crowd of enthusiastic parents gathered to cheer the runners on. The children gave it their all, embodying our school values with every stride. Several records fell during the afternoon’s races, with Elise, Bella W, and Pippa clocking outstanding times and securing their places in the Sports Day record books.
The day concluded with the presentation of key trophies and awards. Congratulations to Frank O and Alice H, who were awarded the Junior Victor and Victrix Ludorums, and to Charles C and Marnie P, who claimed the Senior titles. The Kevin Bethell Shot Put Trophy was deservedly won by James B (7.75m) and Marnie P (7.15m). A special well done to Kinver House, who were crowned overall champions with a winning total of 708 points.
It was a day filled with energy, encouragement, and excellence – a true celebration of school spirit and sporting achievement. We are incredibly proud of all the pupils who took part and made the day such a success. Roll on next year!
