U11 & U10 Netball v The Elms: Miss Jordan’s teams

The A and B teams had super matches against The Elms. Both teams played The Elms A team, due to their depleted numbers, and, once our A team settled into their stride, there was some excellent movement about the court; when it came to change position they knew exactly what to do. They narrowly lost 4-2 but congratulations go to Laura for her nomination as Opposition Player of the Match. Then it was the B team’s turn: they play a lot of netball together, and knowing where everyone is on court was a bonus. Despite playing against mainly Year Six girls, they ended the first quarter with a four goal lead. Unfortunately, The Elms brought it back and we narrowly lost 5-7, but it was a super game of netball with a real nail biting end to the contest. Well done to Charlotte H for being nominated as Opposition Player of the Match.

U11 & U10 Netball v The Elms: Mrs Clark’s teams

On Wednesday, our C and D teams played against The Elms B team. Unfortunately, The Elms were depleted in numbers due to illness, but the girls still had a very exciting afternoon of netball. Since the introduction of the new “Bee Netball” system, we have definitely achieved our goal of developing more all-round, versatile players. Our girls are confident on court playing in all positions, and have a good understanding of the demands of the different roles. Both these teams did exceptionally well, and the scores were in their favour. The shooting from both teams was consistent throughout the game; Lottie S could not miss in the last quarter of their game, scoring four in a row and being nominated as Player of the Match. Congratulations also go to Yifei,  who was named as Player of the Match for her team. She shot well, but her movement around the court also showed maturity.

Well done to all the girls for their great display of netball.

U8 Football v The Elms

There was plenty of excitement on the minibus from the children who had been invited to play in a football match against The Elms, as they travelled to Malvern. It was a great opportunity to put their football skills to the test on a large pitch against strong opposition. Two girls from Year 4, Romi and Martha, had been called up to the team at late notice, after their netball matches had been called off, and they immediately made a big impact in the match. Despite conceding an early goal, the team tried hard to get the ball to the other end of the pitch and play their football in the other team’s half. Matthew and Romi were both ever-present and always seemed to be making a tackle or dribbling the ball well. Rudy, Daniel, George and Max all tried hard in midfield, Jeremiah showed good determination up front, while Bertie and Martha did a great job in defence and managed to prevent The Elms from scoring too many goals. After being brought down in the penalty area, Matthew was unlucky not to score from the resulting penalty, when the opposition’s goalkeeper made a fantastic double save!

Despite the size of the pitch, all of the children tried their best and demonstrated good sportsmanship, perseverance and teamwork skills, throughout the game, whilst also having fun. Not even a quick rain shower could dampen the spirits of the children either! Overall the match proved to be a great opportunity for all of the children to gain valuable match experience, as well as helping to identify some areas for development in our upcoming matches.

Thank you very much to all of the parents who came along and supported the children, and a big well done to all of the girls and boys from Year 3 and 4 who took part!

U9 Football v The Elms

The U9s travelled over to The Elms on Tuesday afternoon for a competitive football fixture. We started well and demonstrated good skills on the ball. Thea H played in the centre of midfield and controlled the game. She made a number of fantastic tackles to win back possession and disturbed the ball well. Ben D was also very strong with the ball at his feet, beating his opponents and driving into space to move the KSA team up the pitch. The whole team worked extremely hard for the entirety of the match. At half time Henry came out of goal and went into midfield. In the last minutes of the game, Henry linked up very well with Zack who played a fabulous ball through to Henry, who struck the ball beautifully, giving the keeper no chance. It was a good game and helped identify more things to work on in our games lessons and clubs. Well done.

U11/10 Football v The Elms and Winterfold

The U11/10 team really impressed us all at the tournament last week and the challenge for the boys this week was to continue to push on and improve. On Wednesday we travelled over to The Elms to play in a triangular against themselves and Winterfold. The first game was against The Elms, where we started exactly where we left off last week, playing some great passing football. We played from the back and after some good moves, the ball fell to Reuben who slotted the ball home to put the KSA team up. Minutes later, Henry R and Sam T moved the ball well down the right hand side and once again played the ball through to Reuben, who once again made no mistake and fired the ball into the back of the net. The next game was against Winterfold and as we knew from last week, were a very strong team. It was a cagey first half with not many chances for either side. The second half we started very strongly and made a number of good chances but couldn’t get the ball in the back of the net. Francis, Tom and Ethan were solid as always in defence for the team and made lots of impressive tackles and distributed the ball well. Will B came into the side and was the only U10 player, he definitely didn’t look out of place and worked his socks off! Another great afternoon of football!

U11/10 Football v The Elms

Eleven children from year 5 and 6 took to the pitch to play a football match against a team from The Elms, Malvern on Wednesday (24th). For most of these boys, it was their first opportunity to represent King’s St. Alban’s at football this academic year, and they certainly made the most of the opportunity. With The Elms only having a team of seven, our boys showed great sportsmanship in offering to take turns playing for The Elms, meaning that all of the boys played every minute of the match. This meant that they all gained valuable playing time in match conditions, which was really beneficial! After conceding an early goal against the run of play, the boys regained their composure and quickly scored a couple of well taken goals to take the lead. Arslan showed good composure in goal, when called upon, and Harry, Ben, Joel and Arlo all played well in defence. TJ, William, Otto and Luca posed a threat to the opposition in midfield, while Jonas and Joshua both played well up front, when they received the ball. There were more goals to follow from TJ, Jonas and Joshua in the second half, to round off a convincing opening win. There were a few areas where there is room for improvement, but overall it was a great start to the football season. Well done to all of the boys who took part!
