Record busting success

RGS Athletics Event

Last Friday, we proudly took 23 pupils to compete in the thrilling RGS Athletics event, exclusively featuring track events across three distances and a concluding Relay. Pupils from all age groups participated in the U11 and U9 categories, delivering some outstanding performances.

Helena shone brightly, winning both the 80m and 600m races, coming tantalizingly close to breaking the 600m record. Alban was equally impressive, not only winning the U9 80m but also setting a new event record with a time of 12.53 seconds.

Congratulations to all our pupils for their incredible efforts and achievements! Well done, team!

The Downs Malvern – Aquathlon

After a hiatus due to COVID, we were thrilled to receive an invitation to The Downs Malvern Aquathlon, a beloved highlight in the school sporting calendar. This event challenges participants with a unique test of endurance and skill, combining a 100m swim followed by a quick transition into an 800m run over a tough course.

Despite not being able to practice due to the refurbishment of our swimming pool, our competitors rose to the occasion. Initial nerves quickly transformed into excitement as the first few competitors flew through the transition area with ease.

All our children performed spectacularly well, and special congratulations go to Helena, who dominated the course, securing first place in the U11 girls’ race and impressively beating all the U13 girls’ times. Kudos also to Charlotte for her commendable fourth place finish in her age group.

Well done to all our amazing participants!

U9/8 A Team Cricket Match v The Elms

On Tuesday afternoon, eight boys and girls from Years Three and Four played cricket against The Elms’ U9A Team in an exciting cricket match. King’s St Alban’s lost the toss and were invited to bat first. Displaying great skill, the team posted an impressive score of 232 for 5 wickets.

Understanding the need to take plenty of wickets while keeping The Elms’ run count low, the King’s St Alban’s team then fielded brilliantly. The game remained finely balanced as the last pair from The Elms came in to bat. Despite our best efforts, The Elms managed to score several boundaries in the final two overs, bringing their total to 257 for 5 wickets.

A special “shout out” goes to Captain Nell, who led by example. She scored several boundaries and took three of the five wickets with her fantastic bowling. This was a closely contested match that could have gone either way, with both umpires highly impressed by the excellent standard of cricket displayed by all the children.

Congratulations to Thea, Romi, Martha, Edith, Hannah, Nell, Ben, and Matthew for representing King’s St Alban’s with such enthusiasm and skill. A heartfelt thank you to all the parents who came out to support the team!

U9/8 B Team Cricket Match v The Elms

The U9 / U8 team put up a strong performance in Tuesday’s fixture against The Elms and should be proud of their efforts. We batted first, hitting some nice shots and gaining runs primarily from Singles. Overall, our calling was good, with Maddie and Julietta exemplifying this.

To improve, we need to “value our wicket” more to avoid penalty runs. In the field, everyone bowled at least one over, showing improved overarm techniques. Alban stood out with his consistent line and length.

The team also displayed great enthusiasm, with Henry and Dylan showing exceptional energy in chasing down every ball. Despite The Elms’ strong defence securing their win, we learned many valuable lessons for future matches.

U9/8 C Team Cricket Match v The Elms

Greta won the toss and chose to field first, setting the stage for an exciting match. Our bowling was our standout performance, with Max, Cerys, and Bertie delivering excellent overs without giving away any extras. Greta was thrilled to bowl a wicket ball and conceded only two runs in her over.

Iris and Bertie formed our highest-scoring batting pair, racking up 14 runs. While everyone batted well, we need to work on making quicker decisions and being more decisive with our calling and running between the wickets.

The match was thrillingly close, with The Elms narrowly defeating us by five runs. Congratulations to Daniel, who was awarded Player of the Match for his outstanding performance. Well done, team!

U9/8 D Team Cricket Match v The Elms

The children had a fantastic afternoon at The Elms, filled with excitement and great cricket action. Winning the toss, we chose to field first. Our bowling has come a long way since the last match, with much-improved accuracy and close-to-the-wicket starts. Jeremiah, Henrietta, and Rudy each hit the stumps to take a wicket, while Poppy dazzled by snagging two wickets in her final over! The Elms posted a score of 249 against our five wickets.

Amber and Poppy opened the batting for King’s St Alban’s, gaining a couple of Singles, though we need to work on calling a bit sooner. Savannah was the star of the show with her impressive hits, securing comfortable Singles and even smashing a Four.

The match ended thrillingly in a draw, with both teams scoring 249 runs and taking five wickets each! Big congratulations go to Savannah, who was rightfully awarded Player of the Match. Well done, team!
