Rosslyn Park 7s Round Up

King’s rugby had a busy time at the Rosslyn Park 7s, with five teams travelling down to London throughout the week-long tournament.

The 1st VII had a tough start on the Monday. They fought hard all day and ended on a high, with a strong performance and victory against Durham School. The whole King’s Foundation particularly thanks and congratulates all the U6th who have now represented the School in rugby for the final time. Their effort and commitment over the years has been exceptional.

The U14s had a brilliant first day at Rosslyn, beating Pocklington, Bristol Grammar and Hayes in the group and Hereford Cathedral in the elimination game. Their next day saw the team face Cheltenham College in a tough match, and later Stowe School in a thrilling affair that was won by King’s with the clock in the red.

On the Wednesday our U16s played some fantastic rugby, winning three of their four games and showcasing some technical 7s. They showed great promise as the future of King’s Senior 7s

The U13s battled hard all day long in what were very difficult 7s conditions. With the rain hammering down for what seemed like the whole day and four days of 7s rugby already having been played at Rosslyn Park on the same pitches, the team managed to throw the ball about and play some expansive rugby, showcasing what King’s 7s is all about. Although in a hard group, each game was competitive, with only a score or two between the sides. In all the matches, other coaches and parents were stunned by the brilliant skill set the boys had and commented that some of the tries they scored were amongst the best they had seen.

For the first time ever, King’s took a U11 combined team from King’s St Alban’s and King’s Hawford to Rosslyn Park for a national rugby 7s tournament. Head of Boys’ Games at KSA, Mr Hooman commented, “The boys did both schools proud and it was amazing to see the pupils building friendships and playing some impressive rugby! They are all very excited at the prospect of playing rugby, football and cricket together through their years at King’s Worcester!”

Director of Rugby, Mr Williams added, “Rosslyn Park National 7s is always a great week which all the boys really enjoy. It is brilliant to be able to field so many teams in the competition, with four senior teams and a prep school team representing the School. It’s the first time as a Foundation we have entered the U11s tournament, with boys coming together from both King’s St Alban’s and King’s Hawford to make up the team; this was a huge success, with the boys doing incredibly well. With the competition continuing to grow each year and teams entering from all over the world, it is great to see that all our teams were competitive, with some excelling on the big stage. There was some fantastic rugby played across the week by all King’s teams and real evidence of all the hard work the pupils have put in, showing brilliant skill sets.”
