Sports Review: tenacious start to second half of term!
U11 Rugby v RGS Springfield
The U11 boys travelled over to RGS Springfield for what was a brilliantly competitive fixture. We started strongly and ran well with the ball, which led to a number of tries from Peter and Harry. Their focus at half time was to be more organised with their defensive line and to use the ball better to capitalise on the space on the wings. They took these points on board and showed a drastic improvement, scoring one of the tries of the season. Ralphie and Jack put in some impressive tackles to stop the RGS attacks on a number of occasions and William D had one of the best games we’ve seen him play. He was strong at every breakdown and gained possession back from RGS with his sheer power and determination in the ruck. Well done to all of the boys on a really good performance.
U11 A/B Hockey v RGS Springfield
The girls had a lovely afternoon of hockey at the new international hockey pitches on Wednesday afternoon. They started strong with some excellent blocks, although they did need to widen their play a little and play up the wings a little when they had the ball. The girls were indomitable in their determination and listened carefully to advice, trying to put it into practice. Lucy hit one off the post and then scored: excellent! Springfield had a couple of excellent players and they managed to score two goals in response to our one. Well done to Lucy for being named Opposition Player of the Match. A little more work is needed on moving around our players but all in all this was a great match, well done girls!
U10 Hockey v RGS Springfield
It was great to see the girls back on the pitch, playing on Wednesday after quite a long break. We were impressed with their tenacious start, and could see a real hunger in them to get shots on goal. One of the main things they have been working on has been keeping possession of the ball and moving into space if there is not a pass to be made. A number of girls demonstrated this well; Karla was particularly effective with this in the way she took the ball wide before passing it into the circle. Well done too to all the girls who scored goals; it was a convincing win.
U8 RGS Hockey Festival
What a brilliant afternoon of hockey this was! We were so impressed with the progress the girls have made. The girls showed some real grit and determination, both in their tackles and moving forwards towards the goal. A number of goals were scored during the afternoon and they should be very proud of their performance.
U8 Rugby Festival at RGS The Grange
Well done to the U8 rugby team, who took part in their third rugby festival of the season at RGS The Grange. The boys continued to develop their understanding of the game, with excellent defensive play and effective attacking of the opponent’s half. The team displayed brilliant enthusiasm, with Jasper and Henry making fantastic runs with the ball to score tries. Ben and Alban supported their team mates well, making good tackles in key areas and Zach scored a fantastic try, running half the length of the pitch. Well done boys!
