Static Snakes Bring Science to Life in Year 4

This week, Year 4 have been busy experimenting with science and creativity as they made their very own static snakes! Using balloons, the children explored how static electricity can be created and then used to make their carefully crafted paper snakes rise, wriggle and even “dance” through the air. There were squeals of excitement as the snakes lifted off the table and floated towards the balloons, showing the children just how powerful static electricity can be.

The fun didn’t stop there. Linking their science to English, the class will now be using this experience as inspiration for their writing. The children will be drafting and editing their own sets of instructions, explaining step-by-step how to make static snakes, while focusing on clarity, sequencing and the use of precise, instructional language.

It has been wonderful to see the children combining practical science with their literacy skills, and we can’t wait to share their finished writing. Well done, Year 4, for your brilliant creativity, teamwork, and scientific curiosity!
