Sticks, Skills and Success: Hockey Review

U10 Hockey vs RGS Wednesday 9th October – Mrs Clark

What a thrilling and evenly contested match! Both teams were very well-matched, making for an exciting game. The entire Year 5 squad participated, and it was a fantastic team effort.

Up front, the combination of Nell, Thea, Romi, and Hannah showed remarkable tenacity in their attack. Thea was particularly effective in setting the press, ensuring RGS couldn’t gain an advantage from their free hits. The team executed several well-drilled short corners, with Nell injecting the ball to Thea, often resulting in a shot on goal.

In defence, Millie stood out with her strong tackling and calm clearances, while Martha had a great game in goal, making a number of confident saves that kept the team in the match.

In the end, the girls were thrilled to come away with a hard-fought victory, with Thea scoring an impressive goal to secure the win. Nell was deservedly awarded ‘Player of the Match’ for her standout performance.

Well done to all the girls for an excellent game!

U11A Girls’ Hockey vs. RGS B Wednesday 9th October – Mrs Clark

The U11 girls faced a well-matched team from RGS in a thrilling game of hockey. The play moved from end to end, keeping both teams on their toes throughout the match. Ariya was relentless in the middle of the pitch, working hard to feed the ball to Georgia up front. Zara and Skye maintained their width, showcasing some excellent runs up the wings that added pressure to the RGS defence.

In the back, Flo remained calm and composed, breaking down several RGS attacks with the help of Yifei, Sophia, and Emma. Despite the strong defensive effort, Madie was still tested in goal. She made some brilliant saves and impressed with her clearances out of the circle, keeping RGS from capitalizing on their chances.

The game was tight, but a crucial moment came when Georgia managed to push the ball into the back of the net, securing a hard-fought 1-0 victory for the team. A fantastic team effort all around!

IAPS Girls’ Regional U11 Hockey – Thursday 17th October

The U11 Girls competed in the IAPS hockey tournament and showed remarkable resilience and improvement throughout, representing the school with pride and playing with determination. The team shared their top highlights from the day, offering a fantastic recap of the standout moments.

Zara W – On Thursday a group of Yr6 girls including myself went to IAPS hockey. We didn’t make it to the finals, but we progressed and improved throughout our matches. It was a very enjoyable day.

Ivy C – In our first matches we weren’t very coordinated but as we progressed through the afternoon, we became more confident and even if it didn’t result in winning at the end of the day, we were still proud of ourselves for not giving up.

Skye F – Our matches were very tough, but no matter what, we didn’t give up. We didn’t make it through to the finals but considering we played so well it counted as a win to us.

Flo R – Through all our injuries we didn’t give up. We did really well in all our matches.

Georgia P – At IAPS there were lots of amazing players. It was really good because we kept on going. We lost a couple and drew a couple. Our defence was strong and had some great hits. We all learnt lots, and it was a great achievement for us all.

Sophia  – We all played amazingly in IAPS. Even though we didn’t go to the finals. We played so many teams. We were on fire with our attacks and the defence never stopped working. Some of us got hurt and we still played on!
