U11 Girls’ Hockey Team Triumphs at The Downs Tournament in Malvern

Match Report: King’s Hawford Triumphs at The Downs U11 Hockey Tournament

King’s Hawford competed fiercely in The Downs Hockey Tournament, showcasing skill, teamwork, and a formidable defence to secure the trophy for the first time since 2017.

The team delivered an unbeaten run, demonstrating strength and strategic play that left their opponents scoreless across all matches.

The tournament started with a tense, nail-biting opening match against Hereford Cathedral. Despite both teams’ best efforts, neither side managed to break the deadlock, resulting in a 0-0 draw.

King’s Hawford soon found their stride and dominated their remaining matches:

4-0 win against The Downs Malvern

 3-0 victory over St Albans

 4-0 triumph versus Moor Park

 5-0 win against Winterfold House

 4-0 victory over The Elms

The team’s flawless performance was highlighted by their exceptional defensive play—they didn’t concede a single goal throughout the tournament. Captained by Marnie, the players maintained excellent positional play and executed strong tackles, consistently sweeping up any opposition threats.

With their impressive record of wins and unbreakable defence, King’s Hawford earned a well-deserved victory and brought the trophy back home after a six-year wait. It was a superb afternoon of hockey, and Kings Hawford’s success at the tournament speaks volumes about the skill, determination, and teamwork of this remarkable squad.

Malvern Hockey Tournament Match Report By captain Marnie

We were very excited on Wednesday to go to Malvern and play in a hockey tournament.

The first match was against Hereford and was the hardest game as we didn’t manage to get a goal. They were a very good team.

In our match against the Downs, Liv G was great at driving down the left wing and Pip showed some solid defensive skills to stop them scoring.

In our next few matches against St Albans, Moor Park and Winterfold we kept them all from getting on the scoresheet with Elizabeth getting the ball out to the midfield pretty quickly. Mary was determined not to let any of the goals in and kept us all positive. Iza did well to travel up the right hand side and pass the ball into the penalty spot area.

Our last match was against the Elms. Although we were getting tired we kept going and we ended up with a win! Millie, Thea, Pippa and I are really starting to know where each other are going to be and we managed to get lots of goals.

I was so proud to be captain today and be part of a team that got a win for King’s Hawford.
