‘We will Remember them’ at King’s St Alban’s
To mark Remembrance Day at King’s St Alban’s the whole school, including Pre-Prep and Prep School children joined together in the Pre-Prep Hall for a special Remembrance Assembly.
Leading the assembly, Headmaster, Mr Chapman reflected upon what life would have been like during the First World War, which was most definitely not a world familiar to those sat cross-legged on the hall floor today! Mr Chapman then encouraged the children to consider why we wear poppies on our school coats or our jumpers at this time of year. The children were keen to share their knowledge and understanding, reflecting on wars with which the children are perhaps more familiar, those happening today in 2022, including in the Ukraine. The children listened attentively to In Flanders Fields by John McCrae before discovering what The Last Post actually is and finally considered why countries go to war and the benefits of so doing.
Reflecting on our own week in school, Mr Chapman presented some Pre-Prep pupils with certificates for all their hard work. These included:
Reception:
- Rory received a Kindness award for always playing beautifully with his classmates.
- Coco is the class Super Star for being enthusiastic and engaged in all lessons.
Year 1
- A Focus award went to Leen for her excellent concentration in her creative writing.
- Tiegan received a Super Star certificate for listening carefully and setting a great example in class.
Year 2
- For always being extra helpful in class, Maddie received a Kindness award.
- Daisy earned a Super Star award for always presenting her work beautifully.
In addition, the whole school came together once again on the school playground at 11am for a two-minute silence, punctuated by the playing of The Last Post which was performed perfectly by Gabriel Tucker, a King’s Worcester pupil. The pupils behaved impeccably, showing wonderful respect for the day.
