There was great excitement in College Hall on Tuesday evening as, for the first time in nearly two and a half years, the whole Prep School and their parents were able to gather together for our school concert.
Our choirs and ensembles have been working incredibly hard throughout the term to prepare music for this event and they performed beautifully. The audience were treated to an eclectic mix of pieces, ranging from Purcell’s Trumpet Tune (Orchestra) to Billy Joel’s Uptown Girl (Senior Choir). Some of the parents were definitely tempted to sing along with the latter! To have two separate renditions of Star Wars Theme by Wind band and Guitar Group was an extra treat – what a great tune!
For many of the children, this was the first time they had sung or played to such a large audience, and they were nervous and exhilarated in equal measure. String Group, Junior Choir and Guitar group are all inexperienced this year and we are sure they will remember their first College Hall performance for a long time to come.
It is no mean feat to stand up and play a solo at these events. Yiming (Y6) gave a wonderfully energetic performance of the jazz piece, Scary Stuff by Sarah Watts on the piano and Arabella (Y6) gave a beautiful rendition of Hedwig’s Theme by John Williams on the viola. We were really proud of both of them, and they thoroughly deserved their rapturous applause.
After such a long period of producing digital events or performing to a restricted audience, there was an incredible buzz throughout the school concert. Everyone had a huge smile, and it was a lovely celebration of music at King’s St Alban’s. Well done everyone!
