History comes to life at Warwick Castle
Pupils in Year 2 at King’s St Alban’s had a wonderful trip to Warwick Castle on Wednesday as part of our history studies.
After a lively minibus trip along the motorway, the children started the trip by climbing to the top of the tallest tower at Warwick Castle, the Guy Tower, a total of 530 steps! It was tiring but the view at the top was breath-taking and definitely worth it every step. Pupils then carefully descended the spiral staircase before heading even further down to visit the dungeon! Some of the cohort were a little nervous but everyone found it incredibly interesting to see where the prisoners were held. Everyone agreed that they wouldn’t like to end up down there for any length of time!
One of the highlights of our trip was the incredible display of birds of prey. We watched an array of these wonderful birds, including a sea eagle, a barn owl, a condor and many more! The best part for the children was when the cheeky sea eagle stole a lunch box from the crowd! After eating our own tasty lunch we had a look around the Timer Tower, where we learnt about the history of Warwick Castle. The children were really thrilled to see moving portraits that spoke to them!
Year 2 also enjoyed looking around the Kings Maker and seeing the statues of different castle figures preparing for battle. Finally, we finished our day by paying a visit to the Witches’ Tower, where we were greeted by the castle’s resident witch who told us all about her plot to turn the prince into a toad!
We had a wonderful day and the children all would love to go back again!
