Year 6 River Studies Trip

Year 6 enjoyed a fascinating river studies field trip on Tuesday to the Knapp and Papermill near Alfrick. There they learnt how to measure the width, depth and rate of flow of a river. This involved the use of tape measures, metre sticks, and hydroprops to measure water speed. The children were so involved in this activity that many went over the tops of their wellingtons! None seemed to mind. The children also got to test the water for pollution levels, recording which types of pond creatures they caught. The existence of delicate forms of pond life demonstrated that the Lye Brook is, thankfully, a clean waterway!
