School Community give thanks for Harvest
This morning the whole school gathered together in the Pre-Prep Hall for a special Harvest Celebration. Pre-Prep pupils kicked off the proceedings with a fantastic performance of Harvest Samba. The children gave a wonderfully energetic performance in front of their older peers and the confidence on display from all of the children was brilliant, as they all performed with large smiles on their faces.
Mr Chapman led the Harvest Service and took time to explain the history of Harvest Festival. He spoke about food miles and how food makes its way from field to cupboard. The younger children were intrigued to learn about all of the different people involved in the process of getting food from the farm to the kitchen. From farmers to delivery drivers and shop workers, there are so many people to whom to be thankful. Mr Chapman also highlighted the need to share with those less fortunate; not everyone is lucky enough to have cupboards and fridges full of food at home. The cost-of-living crisis was also touched upon, as was the issue of food waste.
The brilliant work of food banks across the country was championed by Mr Chapman. Pupils were shocked to learn that the demand for food banks and similar organisations has more than doubled in the last five years. The whole school then joined together to sing Care for Our World. This new harvest hymn was performed to perfection under the instruction of our musical lead, Mrs Gunter.
As a community, King’s St Alban’s have collected a superb amount of food and other items, which will be passed on to the Worcester Food Bank. These donations are always very gratefully received, and help the charity to continue to support lots of local families. Thank you to all those who have contributed this year.
