Boundless Energy: A Joyous Day of Sporting Partnerships
Throughout the year, King’s Worcester runs an extensive partnerships programme, developing relationships and supporting other local schools. Sharing expertise, facilities and time with others, our staff, together with our pupils, contribute positively to the wider community, aiming to make a positive and meaningful difference. It is through this programme that we run a number of workshops with local primary children, and this week we hosted our annual Sports Festival.
After a brief period of slight drizzle, the sky cleared over the King’s Worcester’s Slingpool Walk playing fields just in time for the morning session of our eagerly awaited Sports Festival. The day began with a lively cricket workshop led by our enthusiastic Sixth Form Sports Leaders. With a focus on throwing, batting, and catching, the workshops were designed to be inclusive and fun for everyone. Over 80 Year Five pupils from seven Worcestershire primary schools participated.
Our Sport Leaders worked diligently with mixed school groups, coaching and encouraging the young athletes. It was heart-warming to see every pupil engaged and enjoying themselves. A visiting teacher remarked, “Our Year Five children thoroughly enjoyed themselves. The workshop was well-run, and everyone was so welcoming. It was particularly lovely to see some of our less sporty children shine at an event that was inclusive for everyone.”
As the session concluded, many Year Five pupils could be heard excitedly chatting with their teachers about the fun they had had and the skills they had learned. One delighted Year Five pupil exclaimed, “The best day ever!” whilst another added, “I’ve had a cracking day!”
A special thank you goes to St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School, St Bartholomew’s CE Primary School, Leigh and Bransford Primary School, Suckley Primary School, Malvern Wells Primary School, Rushwick Primary School, and Northwick Manor Primary staff for bringing your pupils and supporting what was a fantastic morning. Thank you for all of your feedback and we look forward to seeing you all next year.
“The Year Fives had such a good time yesterday; I think they have just stopped talking about it today. I believe the other years were a little envious,” shared another school teacher.
“It’s fair to say this was a success! Our children came back very happy, even a few who were initially reluctant to go, so thank you to everyone who made this happen. Our staff who attended reported back positively, saying that both the King’s staff and the pupils who delivered the session were superb. We also appreciate the provision of transport and lunch, as transport was our main barrier to attending the event. Every one of our children who attended benefitted greatly from their experience.”
In the afternoon, the action moved to the King’s Hawford athletics fields, where the weather remained favourable. Over 50 Years Three and Four pupils arrived, brimming with energy, ready to tackle athletic challenges including long jump, foam javelin, and hurdle exercises. Our Sixth Form Sports Leaders were impressed by the levels of enthusiasm and energy!
After the workshops and a brief rest, the afternoon concluded with an exhilarating mixed school relay race. It was wonderful to see all the pupils taking part, with each one celebrated for their participation.
Thank you to Nunnery Wood Primary School, Hartlebury CE Primary School, St Catherine’s CE Primary School, and St Bartholomew’s CE Primary staff and pupils for an excellent afternoon of sporting fun.
“We thoroughly enjoyed the Athletics Festival, which allowed the children to take part in different activities and meet lots of new people, including leaders, teachers, and other students their age. The festival was professionally run, pitched at the right level, and most importantly, FUN!” noted one attending school teacher.
The whole day was a day filled with laughter, learning, and lasting memories for everyone involved.
