Reception’s Wild Adventure at All Things Wild

On Wednesday, Reception enjoyed a wonderful day out at All Things Wild in Honeybourne, bringing their ‘Ready, Steady, Grow’ topic to life in the most exciting way. The trip offered a perfect blend of nature, science, and adventure, providing the children with plenty of opportunities to explore, discover, and learn through hands-on experiences.

The day began with great excitement as the children boarded the Dino Train, journeying through a prehistoric world while eagerly spotting life-sized dinosaurs cleverly hidden along the track. There were squeals of delight as each new dinosaur appeared, sparking curiosity and lively discussion among the group. Next, the children took part in two themed workshops. In the first, linked to their classroom learning, they went on a mission to find baby lemurs and learned about the importance of caring for living things. They then planted bee-friendly seeds, which they will nurture back at school to help support local pollinators, an important message tied to their growing topic.

After a well-earned picnic lunch, the excitement continued with an up-close animal encounter session. The children were introduced to a fascinating collection of creatures including Jaffa the corn snake, Houdini the armadillo, Winston the rabbit, and a giant cockroach! It was wonderful to see so many children stepping out of their comfort zones, many were eager to hold or gently touch the animals, even the cockroach, showing real bravery and curiosity.

The rest of the afternoon was spent exploring the barns and animal enclosures, where the children could observe and learn more about a wide variety of animals in their habitats. Before heading back to school on the minibus, there was just enough time to enjoy the adventure playground, giving the children a chance to run, climb, and play after a full day of exploration.

It was a truly memorable trip, filled with awe, courage, and joyful learning, an enriching experience that brought their classroom topic to life and left the children buzzing with excitement.
