A Year in Music: Farewell Performances and New Beginnings
On Tuesday, we held our final Informal Concert of this academic year. Although we have only been back at school for a few weeks, it was lovely to see that twelve children had already got pieces prepared and were concert ready.
As ever, this was an incredibly varied concert, with a diverse range of instruments including drums, piano, voice, viola, violin, alto saxophone and clarinet. The audience were treated to some old favourites, such as ‘Morning’ (Max, clarinet) ‘The Muppet Show Theme’ (Uriah, piano) and ‘Hallelujah’ (Akshay, violin) alongside some more unfamiliar pieces such as the beautiful ‘Cloudy Day’ (Hannah, piano) and the toe tapping ‘New Orleans’ (Iris, piano). Zara brought the concert to a lively end with her spirited rendition of ‘My New Philosophy’. There were lots of smiles, and it was clear that there was something for everyone.
It is always lovely to welcome new performers to the Informal Concert family. Daniel (Y4) is a seasoned Informal Concert artist as a singer but made his first appearance on the clarinet, and it was superb to see how much he is already progressing on this instrument.
As this was the final concert in this year’s series, it was also our opportunity to say ‘goodbye’ to some of our leaving Y6 children. Uriah, Emily and Zara have all been committed performers throughout their time at KSA, and it has been a real privilege to be part of their musical journey in this way. They gave highly accomplished final performances, and it was a real treat to hear them one last time in the Chapel. We wish them well as they move on to new musical opportunities next year.
Well done to all our musicians. We have had a fantastic Informal Concert series this year, and this week’s event was a wonderful way to round off a very successful year of solo performances.
