This week’s events have been a wonderful way to round off what has been a busy and successful season of sport. A huge thank you to all the staff, parents, and supporters who have cheered from the sidelines and helped make this term’s sport such a memorable one.

U11/U10 Cricket v Malvern St James – Wednesday 18th June 2025

What a fantastic cricket match! We started by fielding first and showed brilliant teamwork. Skye was on fire with the ball, taking 3 amazing wicket, 1 caught and 2 bowled! Zara and Georgia also bowled beautifully and each took a wicket, helping us keep the opposition to a score of 242.

Then it was our turn to bat. We stayed calm and focused, with great calling and clever running between the wickets. Yifei and Georgia stood out with some superb hitting, scoring lots of runs to keep us ahead. Everyone worked together to build our total.

In the end, we passed their score and finished with a brilliant 259 runs! Well done to Yifei and Skye/Georgia who were awarded batter and bowlers of the match. It was a great team effort with strong bowling, smart batting, and excellent communication. Well done to everyone who played, you should all be very proud!

King’s St Alban’s U11/U10 v Malvern St James – Wednesday18th June 2025

On a very hot afternoon, King’s St Alban’s U11/U10 faced Malvern St James in a fantastic game of cricket. King’s bowled first and Rosie W set the tone with a superb opening over, claiming a wicket with her very first ball! Emily F also bowled beautifully to take a great wicket, while Isy G and Millie W followed up with wickets of their own.

All of the King’s bowlers were very accurate, delivering plenty of dot balls despite the challenging heat. The fielders did a brilliant job staying focused and keeping energy levels up on a scorching day, putting pressure on the batters at every opportunity.

When it was King’s turn to bat, Ariya R and Izzy R were in fine form, playing some confident shots and running well between the wickets. Kasvi B and Bella, Elizabeth L-S and Cerys J also batted very sensibly, picking up lots of singles and twos to keep the score ticking along. The running was especially sharp, with some great calling leading to a number of extra runs.

The final score was 245 to Malvern St James and 270 to King’s St Alban’s. The Opposition’s Batter of the Match was Ariya, while the Bowler of the Match was Bella.

I was so impressed with the King’s players’ bowling accuracy and the improvements they’ve all made this term. Well done to everyone for a superb performance and a fantastic team effort in the heat!

U11/10 IAPS Cricket at Oundle School – Monday 23rd June 2025

The U11/10 cricket team from King’s St Alban’s travelled to Oundle for the IAPS Cricket Tournament, facing a tough group featuring The Perse School, The Elms Nottingham, St Hugh’s and Milton Keynes Prep School. Despite a challenging start, the team showed fantastic development, resilience, and moments of real quality throughout the day.

The opening match against The Perse School proved to be a difficult one, with KSA struggling to build momentum with the bat. Although the team battled hard in the field, The Perse’s batters found their rhythm early. A standout moment came from Ben J, who produced a spectacular one-handed caught and bowled, a real highlight of the tournament, but it wasn’t quite enough to slow the flow of runs.

In the second fixture against The Elms Nottingham, Arlo F won the toss and elected to bowl. This proved to be a smart decision as Archie B opened the bowling with great control, setting the tone early. In the field, the energy and intent were clear, especially from Ben D, whose pressure helped force two key run outs, one each from Archie B and Ben J, putting The Elms under real strain.

KSA’s most complete performance came in a thrilling game against St Hugh’s. Batting first, the team built a solid total, with excellent contributions from Nell D, Max G, and Will B, who rotated the strike well and punished loose deliveries. The second innings went right down to the wire, with St Hugh’s needing 12 runs from the final over. Will B held his nerve brilliantly, taking a crucial wicket, and a smart run out from Max G in the final moments sealed a memorable victory for KSA.

In the final match against Milton Keynes Prep, the batters impressed again. Arlo F played a fluent innings, scoring a run-a-ball 15, supported by Ben J and Oscar T, who kept the scoreboard ticking. Nell D opened the bowling with pace and consistency, but Milton Keynes found the gaps well and managed to chase down the target in a well-contested game.

Overall, the tournament gave the KSA team a fantastic platform to demonstrate the progress they have made over the winter programme and into the summer term. With one final fixture remaining against RGS The Grange, anticipation is high for a strong finish to what has been a promising and exciting season.

U8/9 Cricket vs. RGS The Grange

What a fabulous way to end the term!

In a thrilling encounter against RGS The Grange, the KSA U9/8 cricket team delivered a fantastic all-round performance to seal a well-earned victory and round off the term in style.

KSA took to the field first, bowling and fielding with exceptional focus and energy, especially considering the tough, windy conditions. The standard of cricket was genuinely impressive. Charlie and Dylan stood out with the ball, keeping their lines tight and making scoring difficult for the opposition. Backed up by brilliant fielding from the entire team, KSA restricted RGS to 270 runs.

KSA then turned their attention to the chase. Monty and Charlie got things underway with a sparkling start, smashing 34 runs in just three overs. Later in the innings, Matthew and Jack closed things out in confident fashion, scoring 28 runs across three overs. Their calm and composed batting ensured KSA finished on 278, securing a narrow but deserved win.

What stood out most was the remarkable progress every single player has made throughout the term. The team’s skill, spirit, and sportsmanship were on full display, and it’s clear this is a group with huge potential as they continue their journey at KSA.

A proud day for the boys and a perfect end to a brilliant term of cricket!

Bowler of the match – Dylan M

Batter of the match – Charlie W

U8/9 Cricket vs. RGS The Grange

In a competitive and entertaining fixture against RGS The Grange, the U8/9 cricket team showcased brilliant teamwork, determination, and developing cricket skills throughout. Batting first, Archie H and Gabe E lit up the innings with some superb boundary hitting, each striking multiple powerful fours to keep the scoreboard ticking. Savannah P impressed with her elegant shot selection, finding the gaps with ease, and worked in excellent partnership with Maddie E, who ran between the wickets with real energy and intelligence. A personal highlight was that we went the whole innings without losing a wicket.

With the ball, the team continued to shine. Hugo F and Harvey M stood out for their consistent and accurate bowling, building pressure with every over. Their control and discipline helped keep the RGS batters in check throughout the innings.

The highlight of the match came when Gabe E produced a spectacular caught and bowled. The ball was struck hard straight back at him, but Gabe reacted brilliantly, holding on to a sharp chance that drew loud applause from both teams and spectators.

Overall, it was another excellent team performance full of determination, support for each other, and a clear love for the game. Well done to all involved – a proud day for the team!

U8/9 Cricket vs. RGS The Grange

Three teams from Year 3 and 4 made the short journey up the A38 to Claines on Tuesday (24th) afternoon to play a cricket match against R.G.S. The Grange. Despite a strong wind which helped to keep the children cool, it was a lovely afternoon for a friendly ‘pairs’ cricket match against our local Worcester counterparts.

Akshay, Sophie, Nell, Daniel, George, Poppy, Magson and Milan made up the team and batted first. Poppy and Sophie batted first, scoring a solid 13 runs off their two overs. Akshay and Nell batted next, scoring an impressive 15 runs between them. Daniel and George followed, scoring 12 important runs, whilst Magson and Milan rounded off the batting scoring 10 well taken runs. This meant that St. Alban’s posted a very respectable score of 52 runs for the loss 0 wickets – a fantastic achievement that would go on to decide the result of the match.

Sophie and Poppy opened the St. Alban’s bowling attack, doing well to only concede 3 runs and 5 wides. Nell and Akshay conceded 7 runs and 4 wides. George and Daniel managed to restrict R.G.S The Grange to just 1 run and 4 wides, whilst Milan and Magson conceded 9 runs and 3 wides. However, with the win looking like it was slipping just out of reach Magson claimed two excellent wickets when he bowled the R.G.S. The Grange batter out with a perfectly straight bowl and then proceeded to run their other batter out with a direct hit to the stumps two balls later!

By chance, R.G.S. The Grange also finished their innings with a total of 52 runs for the loss of 2 wickets, which meant that although both teams had finished on the same score, King’s St. Alban’s were the actual winners as a direct result of losing no wickets and with Magon claiming two vital wickets during his over.

As discussed during the team talk, this match proved to be a very close game which ended up being decided by how many wickets each side took. Well done to the children who gained valuable experience about the importance of accurate bowling and fielding and taking every opportunity to take a wicket. Thank you very much to the parents who came down to watch and support the children in the sunshine.

Player of the Match: Magson.

U8/9 Cricket vs. RGS The Grange

Despite the final score not going our way, the U8 and U9 teams put on a fantastic display of teamwork, energy, and sportsmanship in their final cricket match of the year. Every player contributed with enthusiasm. Henrietta stood out with her good communication on the field. Her constant calling after every ball kept the team alert and coordinated. Maren and Leen also had brilliant games, showing determination and focus throughout. Maren’s quick reactions and confident play added real strength to the team’s performance. The bowling attack was consistent, and the fielding effort had energy, with players chasing balls with commitment. With the bat, there were some lovely shots and clever running between the wickets, showing how much the team has grown in confidence and skill.

Although we didn’t come away with a win this time, we lost by 9 runs, the progress they have made is far more important. The players should be incredibly proud of their efforts, well done all!

U8/9 Cricket vs. RGS The Grange

RGS won the toss and elected to put us in the field. Conditions were difficult, with the wind gusting, moving the ball around. However, we were pretty consistent , with Daisy and Iris leading the way with very few wides and no-balls. RGS set a solid total for us to chase. Our batting was good, with lots of nice shots played. Jeremiah hit a few boundaries in partnership with Rudy and Amber and Iris brought us home with really clear communication on when to run. We managed to beat their total, to finish the season with a win.

U11 Girls’ Cricket Match Report – Final Game of the Season

What a fantastic display of cricket in our final match of the season! Although Flo lost the toss and RGS chose to put us in to bat, the team rose to the occasion under perfect cricketing conditions, with the sun shining all afternoon.

Thea and Emma opened the batting. Despite some early nerves, they set a solid foundation for the innings. Skye and Nell followed as the second pair. This was Skye’s first hard ball game, and although she was understandably apprehensive, she quickly settled at the crease. Together, they became our highest-scoring partnership. In the final three overs, Nell and Flo batted with energy and intent, displaying excellent running between the wickets and capitalising on every scoring opportunity. The team posted a commendable total of 245 runs.

Knowing we needed to back up our batting with tight bowling and sharp fielding, the team delivered superbly. Only 5 extras were conceded throughout the entire innings—an outstanding effort. Wickets were shared between Flo, Georgia, Thea, and Zara, giving us one more than RGS managed. Thea led the bowling attack with the best figures: just 4 runs conceded and a wicket taken in her two overs.

As the match reached its climax, RGS required just 6 runs from their final batting pair to secure the win. Skye bowled a superb over, conceding only 2 runs. Flo followed with a calm and composed over, which even saw LBW appeals. Nell bowled the final over with real aggression, doing everything she could to secure a final wicket. However, the RGS batters held firm, blocking out the last deliveries and edging ahead to win by just 5 runs.

Despite the narrow defeat, this was an outstanding performance and a thrilling end to the season. Every player contributed, and the whole team should feel incredibly proud of their efforts. It was a brilliant showcase of U11 girls’ cricket.

U10/11 Cricket vs. RGS The Grange

Although the scoreboard showed a loss, our last match of the season against RGS The Grange was full of valuable learning moments and individual brilliance. The opposition proved to be a very strong side, but our team showed great resilience, spirit, and flashes of real talent throughout the game. Luca was named Batter of the Match for his composed and confident innings. He struck several fours, showing excellent timing and technique under pressure. With the ball, Charles was outstanding and earned the title of Bowler of the Match. He bowled with accuracy and pace, troubling the batters and picking up a well-deserved wicket. Jake also made a key breakthrough, with a wicket, showing determination. Despite the strength of the opposition, our players never gave up. The fielding effort was full of energy, and the team supported each other brilliantly throughout. Every player should be proud of their attitude and effort — they represented the school with pride well done!

U10/11 Cricket vs. RGS The Grange

On Wednesday afternoon, three teams from Years 5 and 6 at King’s St. Alban’s made the short journey up the A38 to Claines to take on R.G.S. The Grange in a friendly ‘pairs’ cricket fixture. Though the match began under overcast skies, the sun soon broke through, making for a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon of cricket against our Worcester neighbours.

Representing King’s St. Alban’s were Martha, Tilly, Henry, George, Brody, Crispin and Hannah. St. Alban’s were put in to bat first and got off to a steady start. Brody and Henry opened the batting, scoring 11 runs from their two overs, though they were unlucky to lose 2 wickets. George and Crispin followed, adding a valuable 17 runs, also for the loss of 2 wickets.

Martha and Hannah kept the scoreboard ticking with a solid 13 runs, and the innings was finished strongly by Tilly and Martha, who added a further 21 runs without loss. Taking into account the deduction of 5 runs for each wicket lost, King’s St. Alban’s posted a respectable total of 42 runs for 4 wickets – a good effort against a capable R.G.S. bowling attack.

The bowling innings began in dramatic fashion, with Brody achieving a diamond duck by taking a wicket with the very first ball of the innings – an excellent moment that lifted the team’s spirits. Henry supported well at the other end, but the St. Alban’s fielders found it difficult to contain one R.G.S. batter in particular, who managed to score a series of boundaries that ultimately tilted the match in their favour. However, there was still time for a final highlight, as Martha produced a superb delivery with her final ball to bowl the R.G.S. batter out – an excellent individual moment that capped off a determined team effort.

Though the match ended in a loss, it was a valuable learning experience and a fitting end to the season. The game served as a reminder of the importance of sharp fielding and taking every opportunity to score runs. The players demonstrated great teamwork, perseverance, and spirit throughout – especially those for whom this was their final match in a St. Alban’s shirt.

A huge well done to all involved, and a special congratulations to Martha, who was deservedly named Player of the Match for her brilliant performance with both bat and ball. Thank you to all the parents who came to support – it was a lovely way to end the school cricket season.

U10/11 VS RGS

The U10/11 cricket team put on a fantastic display of skill and team spirit in their match against RGS The Grange. Batting first, the team showed real intent with some superb shot-making across the board. George P and Jackson B stood out with a series of confident and powerful strokes, timing the ball beautifully and finding the boundary regularly. Ariya R added real value to the innings with her excellent running between the wickets, turning ones into twos and keeping the pressure on the fielding side.

In the field, the team’s energy and commitment were outstanding. Zack L had a brilliant game, taking two well-judged catches that shifted momentum in our favour. Emily F pulled off a stunning catch over her head, showing great awareness and bravery. Isy G also played a crucial role in the field, using her athleticism to cut off boundaries and limit scoring opportunities for the opposition.

Every player contributed to a performance full of enthusiasm, teamwork, and determination. The fielding effort, in particular, demonstrated great communication and support. A well-rounded and impressive team effort – the players should be proud of their performance!

U10/11 vs RGS

On a glorious afternoon, we welcomed RGS for what turned out to be a competitive and enjoyable fixture. With the sun shining and the boys excited to play on the 2nd team square, the stage was set for a great match.

KSA bowled first and immediately impressed with a disciplined and focused display in the field. The bowling unit stuck to their task well, with Archie B delivering a standout spell—2 overs, 1 wicket, and just 6 runs conceded. Arlo also made a strong impact, claiming a wicket in his 2-over spell while giving away only 8 runs. Backed up by solid fielding, we managed to restrict RGS to 107, which felt like a very gettable target given the quality we’ve seen from the boys throughout the term.

Unfortunately, our chase didn’t quite go to plan. We weren’t able to build any lasting partnerships and struggled to maintain the required run rate. That said, there were still moments of real promise with the bat, most notably from Ben J, who struck two excellent boundaries, including a beautifully timed pull shot to the leg side that drew warm applause from the spectators.

Despite falling short of the target, it was another match full of learning and character. I’ve been so impressed with the standard of cricket shown by this group throughout the term. Their progress has been clear to see, and every single player should be proud of how they’ve played and carried themselves. The future is bright!
