Netball

King’s Hawford v Hymers College

King’s Hawford were delighted to welcome Hymers College, who were visiting as part of their sports tour, for what proved to be an exciting and competitive seven-a-side netball match.

Mrs Beech’s Team

From the first whistle, King’s Hawford showed great determination and teamwork in their first game of the season.

Charlotte controlled the centre court brilliantly, linking defence and attack with calmness and precision. Zara impressed with her strong defensive play, breaking down Hymers’ advances and turning over possession at key moments. In the attacking circle, Ariana and Bella combined beautifully, demonstrating superb shooting accuracy and composure under pressure.

Rosie and Jasmine were solid in defence, reading the game well and making several crucial interceptions. Meanwhile, Florrie, Abi and Maisie showed excellent energy and skill through the centre court, maintaining King’s Hawford’s attacking momentum throughout the match.

It was an excellent all-round performance that earned King’s Hawford a well-deserved win. With such a strong start to the season, the team can look forward to exciting prospects ahead next term.

Mrs Butt’s Team 

The King’s Hawford girls were delighted to welcome Hymers College on Wednesday and really enjoyed the opportunity to play netball in the main hockey term.

From the first whistle the girls were on the attack making a string of very nice passes through centre court.

Indie B made some great movement in the circle creating a number of shooting opportunities securing three goals in the first quarter. All the girls rotated around positions on the court with Adelyn, Robyn, Charlotte P and Georgia all contributing to the Centre role. Izzy and Annie both held the GK and GD positions with strength and determination whilst Daisy and Valerie offered plenty of opportunities on the wings with some excellent mid-court movement. Indie put another few goals on the score board added to by Adelyn and Valerie.

It was a very pleasing performance by the King’s Hawford girls and exciting to think forward to the netball term after Christmas.

The opposition named Adelyn as player of the match and Mrs Butt would like to highlight Annie, Indie and Valerie for their fantastic contribution to the team.

Hockey

U8 Hockey at the RGS The Grange Festival

All the King’s Hawford U8 girls travelled to the RGS Hockey Festival on Tuesday. Despite the weather, spirits were high with lots of pitch time and match play experience for everyone.

It was a very wet afternoon at RGS The Grange, but the rain did nothing to dampen the spirits of our U8 girls, who demonstrated superb resilience, determination, and teamwork throughout the festival. The girls took part in a series of exciting matches against RGS The Grange, King’s St. Alban’s, Blue Coat, Moor Park, Monmouth Prep, Hereford Cathedral and Winterfold.

Mrs Butt’s team had a fantastic afternoon playing against Hereford Cathedral School, Winterfold, Blue Coat and Moor Park. Each one of the girls had the opportunity to captain the team and showcased some fantastic hockey skills with good dribbling and some strong passes.

Poppy made a number of excellent crosses that resulted in goals and Elizabeth made some well timed tackles and clearances to keep the opposition away. Matilda had her eye on the goal scoring three goals throughout the tournament with Trixie and Fifi also getting on the score sheet. Poppy was nominated player of the match by the opposition but overall, it was an excellent team performance with much enjoyment!

Mrs Butt’s team showed great enthusiasm from start to finish. They worked hard to move the ball into attacking spaces and showed increasing confidence in their passing and positioning. There were some excellent examples of teamwork on display, and the girls should be proud of their improvement across the afternoon. Poppy made a number of excellent crosses that resulted in goals and Elizabeth made some well timed tackles and clearances to keep the opposition away. Matilda had her eye on the goal scoring three goals throughout the tournament with Trixie and Fifi also getting on the score sheet. Poppy was deservedly nominated player of the match by the opposition.

Miss Lake’s team also enjoyed a successful afternoon. Clancy showed good defensive skills, confidently stepping in to break up opposition attacks. Olivia P and Maha demonstrated much-improved roll outs, carrying the ball forward with control and purpose. Olivia L impressed with her quick pace and skillful ball control, creating several promising attacking opportunities.

Miss Cook’s team worked tirelessly all afternoon, showing real grit and determination despite the wet conditions. Mia was outstanding in defence, making a number of crucial tackles to stop attacking play, particularly against Moor Park. The whole team showed wonderful teamwork and sportsmanship throughout.

Overall, it was a fantastic afternoon of hockey, with every player showing progress, positivity, and a great attitude. The girls should be very proud of their performances and the way they represented the school.

Hockey U10/U11 v Winterfold

The King’s Hawford U11 girls had the opportunity to travel to Winterfold for a Triangular fixture against the hosts and The Blue Coat School.

Mrs Butt’s team created a number of opportunities against Winterfold with numerous shots on goal. The Winterfold Goalkeeper worked hard to keep the ball out but finally Florrie W was able to find the backboard with a well struck sweep. Jasmine took a tumble denying her a clear goal yet continued to work tirelessly in midfield with the assistance of Rosie and Bella on the wings. The girls found the goal once more from a particularly well times short corner strike from Florrie on to the left post where Charlotte was lying in wait to tuck it into the goal, it was very much a shared effort.

The team continued to produce some lovely phases of passing Hockey against The Blue Coat School. Adelyn attacked down the right executing a number of excellent crosses for Maysie and Ariana in the area with Ariana putting two goals on the score board from some well timed shots on target. Jasmine executed a textbook strike from a short corner to find the goal for the second time with Florrie and Rosie following suit with a goal each. Overall it was a very pleasing team performance with Jasmine and Florrie being recognised by the opposition with the player of the match awards.

Miss Lake’s team played brilliantly in both matches against Winterfold and Blue Coat with some fantastic team hockey on display and a clean sheet with no goals conceded.

Abi and Valerie were particularly strong in the midfield creating a number of attacks and opportunities on goal. Georgia was a strong force throw out the afternoon, making good tackles when necessary and drove the ball forward with pace. Zara and Indie both worked well as a defensive pair executing well times tackles and clearing the ball with excellent ball pace. Charlotte P had a number of very well-timed attacks to put the opposition defense under pressure and finished with some superb goals for the team. A special mention has to go to Zara for volunteering to play for the opposition and caused the KH team some difficulties with some great tackles on her teammates and excellent clearances. Additionally, she was nominated player of the match by the opposition for her excellent play throughout all the games. 

Rugby

U8 Tag Rugby at RGS The Grange

The King’s Hawford U8 tag rugby teams put in a fantastic performance at the festival hosted by RGS The Grange on Tuesday.

The boys in Mr Hodgkins’s team played with great enthusiasm, teamwork, and determination in their matches against both RGS The Grange teams and Winterfold. Their attacking play was particularly impressive, with Hugo and Oliver standing out for their speed, creativity, and ability to find space to score some excellent tries. In defence, Nicholas was outstanding, showing real commitment and consistency with his accurate and well-timed tag tackles.

Overall, it was a superb team effort that reflected the boys’ hard work and growing understanding of the game.

U11 Rugby vs Hymers College

On Wednesday, the King’s Hawford U11 rugby teams hosted Hymers College for a highly anticipated set of matches, forming part of Hymers’ annual sports tour to the area. The fixture continues the now well-established and valued link between the two schools.

Mr Hodgkins’s team faced a tough challenge against a very strong and dominant Hymers side, who started the game at a high tempo. Despite the early pressure, the King’s Hawford boys showed their trademark resilience and “never say die” attitude, producing a superb fightback in the second half. Tries from Austin, Luca, and Alex showcased the team’s attacking flair and determination, while Henry stood out with an excellent all-round performance, contributing strongly in both defence and attack.

It was a spirited display that reflected the team’s commitment and character.

Swimming

U8 & U9 Swimming Gala v King’s St Alban’s and RGS The Grange (KSA)

On Thursday afternoon, twenty-eight eager U8 and U9 swimmers travelled to King’s St. Alban’s to take part in a friendly swimming gala, competing against the hosts and RGS The Grange. Two teams represented King’s Hawford, and all the children showed exceptional enthusiasm and team spirit throughout the afternoon. For the U8s, this was their very first experience of representing the school in swimming, and for most, their first time swimming competitively.

Congratulations to Poppy B, Olivia P, Maddie P and Emily G, who each won their individual heats. The U8 boys medley relay team also finished in first place, made up of Jonty D, Charles B, Archie G and Elliott E. A special mention must go to Olivia P and Poppy B who showed great courage swimming up in the U9 relay teams and also to Charles B who demonstrated great sportsmanship, shaking the hand of his fellow swimmers after his freestyle heat. A huge well done to all of our swimmers for a brilliant all around performance!
