Year 1 Explore the Night Sky with Owl Babies
As part of their half-term topic ‘In the Night Sky’, Year 1 have been captivated by the story Owl Babies by Martin Waddell. During a creative writing lesson, the children were thrilled to receive a letter from Bill, the youngest of the owl babies, who was missing his mummy while she went hunting. Bill asked the children for advice on how to cope while she was away and ideas for passing the time.
The children responded with fantastic letters, full of empathy and thoughtful suggestions. Some of their brilliant ideas included playing Owl I Spy to make the time pass quickly and taking deep breaths when feeling scared, showing real care and understanding for Bill’s feelings.
The learning didn’t stop there! The children also enjoyed creating their own owl adventures using story spoons and cuddly owls, letting their imaginations soar as they invented exciting new tales.
Well done, Year 1 your creativity and empathy truly shone this week!
