Supporting Malvern St James Families

We are sorry to hear the news regarding Malvern St James School and recognise how difficult and unsettling this will be for its community.

The King’s Worcester Foundation wishes to offer a supportive and practical conversation to MSJ families who may be considering their next steps for September. Where appropriate, we would be happy to discuss potential places across our schools and to answer any questions.

Contact us confidentially to arrange a conversation.

Year 2 Explore the World of Hedgehogs

This week, Year 2 have thoroughly enjoyed expanding their knowledge of hedgehogs as part of their Guided Reading work. Their new class text, The Hodgeheg by Dick King-Smith, has sparked great curiosity and enthusiasm for learning more about these fascinating creatures.

The children began by looking at photographs of a real hedgehog that Mrs Fourie had spotted during the daytime near her home. This unusual sight prompted lots of thoughtful questions and discussions. They then learned more about the hedgehog’s story, including how it was taken to a wildlife centre after appearing unwell. Fortunately, the story had a happy ending, as the hedgehog received treatment and recovered after eating a slug that had been affected by slug pellets.

Inspired by this, the children explored hedgehog fact files and discovered a range of interesting information. They then used their knowledge to design their own eye-catching hedgehog information posters, which were both creative and informative.

In addition, the class read the first chapter of The Hodgeheg and were set an important challenge: to help Max the hedgehog learn about road safety. The children wrote and designed their own versions of the Green Cross Code, offering clear advice to help Max cross the road safely, just like humans do.

It has been a highly engaging week of reading, writing, and learning, with the children showing great enthusiasm throughout.
