A Week of Progress and Positivity for U10 Cricket

Our U10 cricket teams enjoyed a fantastic afternoon of fixtures against The Downs this week, with pupils showing great determination, teamwork, and enthusiasm throughout all of the matches.

U10 Cricket v The Downs –

The U10 team took on The Downs in what was the first proper T20 experience for most of the team, having previously only played pairs cricket. It was a great opportunity for everyone to experience a different style of game and the team adapted well throughout.

After being put into bat first, we started a little nervously with the “you’re out, you’re out” format adding some pressure early on. However, the team quickly settled and began finding runs regularly. Monty, Elodie, Theo and Eli all made good contributions with some solid shots and looking to take advantage of any loose bowling. While the team’s running between the wickets was excellent as we looked to turn singles into twos wherever possible.

With the ball, we were disciplined and tight throughout. Matthew, Haadi, Elodie, Monty and Max C picked up early wickets to give us a great start. In the middle overs Bertie, George, Eli, and Harvey bowled economically to help restrict The Downs’ total by keeping their lines straight and limiting extras. Theo was excellent behind the stumps, putting his body on the line and taking a superb catch which was my moment of the day! The team fielded brilliantly with great effort shown across the field, diving around and stopping the ball reaching the boundary which was great to see.

Unfortunately, the Downs came out on a winning side, but the team should be proud of their efforts playing against a side a year older than them. It was a great learning experience and there were lots of positives to take from a very enjoyable afternoon of cricket.

U10 Cricket v The Downs

Despite knowing it would be a tough challenge against The Downs U11/10 side, the team stepped up brilliantly and produced a fantastic all-round performance full of energy, teamwork, and confidence.

We bowled first and immediately showed great intent in the field. Oscar, Jack, and Dylan all picked up well-deserved wickets, while the team stayed lively and switched on throughout the innings. The moment of the innings came from Jack, who produced an outstanding caught-and-bowled effort, showing superb reactions to grab a fabulous one-handed catch that had everyone applauding. The Downs finished on 61 after a strong batting display.

Going into bat, the team continued their positive approach. Oscar, Dylan, and Poppy all played some lovely attacking shots that raced away for four, while Ariya produced a brilliant leg-side shot that came very close to clearing the boundary.

The batting highlight of the day belonged to Poppy. Walking to the crease with confidence, she watched the very first ball brilliantly before smashing it away for four, a superb shot and a fantastic moment for the team.

Jack and Dylan then guided the innings home with a calm and mature partnership to finish things strongly, helping the team reach an excellent total of 70.

Special congratulations also to Dylan, who was voted Bowler of the Day by The Downs, and Poppy, who was voted Batter of the Day by the opposition.

A great performance all round, and it’s fantastic to see everyone making such fabulous progress each week.

U10 Cricket v The Downs

Another tough challenge awaited the team against The Downs U11 side, but once again the players showed great determination and continued improvement throughout the match.

We started with the bat and produced some excellent cricketing moments. The team ran brilliantly between the wickets all innings, communicating well and making strong calls to keep the scoreboard moving. It was great to see the confidence growing as partnerships developed and pressure was put onto the fielding side. Sophie played a lovely shot to score a well-deserved boundary, while the team finished with an impressive total of 236.

A special mention goes to Imogen, who was voted Batter of the Match by The Downs team after an excellent performance at the crease.

It was then our turn to bowl and field, where the team worked hard to stop valuable runs. The fielding effort was strong throughout, with everyone showing good awareness and backing each other up well. Imogen, Maddie, and Dan all bowled lots of straight deliveries, creating pressure with a number of dot balls and making scoring difficult at times for the opposition.

Despite the effort in the field, The Downs finished on 248 to take the game. Maddie was deservedly recognised for her performance and was voted Bowler of the Match by the opposition.

Another week full of learning in real game situations, with plenty of positives to take forward. The team continues to make excellent progress and we now look ahead excitedly to our matches against Hereford Cathedral next week.

U10 Cricket v The Downs

The U10 team faced a strong mixed U11/U10 The Downs side and, although the result didn’t go our way, there were plenty of positives to take from the game.

With the bat, we protected our wickets well, and when the opportunity was there to score, Jeremiah played some excellent shots and struck the ball confidently. The team showed great determination throughout the innings.

With the ball, there are areas we can continue to improve, particularly with consistency in our lines and lengths, but the effort and attitude from everyone remained excellent from start to finish. In the field, the team stayed focused, alert and worked hard for each other the whole game.

A special mention goes to Rudy and Amber, who both bowled well, keeping the ball straight, building pressure with dot balls and helping restrict the opposition’s scoring.

Most importantly, the team kept battling throughout and will take plenty of learning and confidence into training ahead of the next match.
