Superworm and Minibeast Adventures in Reception

Reception pupils have been buzzing with excitement this week as they focused their learning around minibeasts and the much-loved story Superworm.

Pupils enjoyed becoming mini explorers as they searched for minibeasts around the school campus using magnifying glasses to help them investigate the natural world more closely. It was wonderful to see their curiosity and enthusiasm as they carefully observed and identified different creatures in their habitats.

The topic has also inspired some fantastic writing, with pupils working incredibly hard to produce detailed and imaginative pieces of work. Alongside this, they have developed their observational drawing skills and are becoming true experts at identifying and accurately sketching a variety of minibeasts.

In maths, pupils applied their understanding of 3D shapes by designing and creating their own minibeast nets. Through this practical activity, they demonstrated excellent knowledge of shape properties while combining creativity with mathematical thinking.

A wonderful week of hands-on learning, creativity, and discovery in Reception!
